Quizmaker '13 not saving OR losing formatting

Jan 30, 2014

I am having a problem with Quizmaker '13 not saving formatting. I make changes and apply a format and do things to the a quiz and sometimes it saves and sometimes it doesn't.

I also have opened a previously saved/closed quiz file and had the formatting all there, then closed and reopened it again and had all the formatting strippedĀ  from the slide and back to the Quizmaker default slide with only the text in there.

This is happening to another designer working on separate files as well...not just me.

Another issue is that the time stamp, regardless of whether the files saves the formatting or not, does not change for the Engage or Quizmaker files within the folder. It does, however, change on the powerpoint Engage cover slides within the powerpoint. Very strange.

Please help. Can't move forward if I keep losing work. Thanks.

Hi Rebecca! I believe we are working on your time stamp issue here.

One thing we have not discussed, and this issue leads me in this direction, is working locally.

When creating, editing, and publishing Articulate Presenter '13 courses, be sure you're working on your local hard drive (typically your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources. See this article for more information.

After a lot of lost work, we have learned that you HAVE TO do a "Save and Send" to "Package" with the powerpoint to zip/package the files before moving files to a server from your desktop. We never did this with '09 and it is really not stressed enough in the Articulate '13 information. If you don't do this, you will work on Engage and Quizmaker files and it will appear everything is there, but when you save and reopen, or move to a server and back to your desktop, none of the Engage and Quiz files will have held the changes.

Not sure why this was not emphasized more for Studio '13! It is a different way of working and we lost a lot of time recreating files.

We are having the same issues and in our case, we had to work using the network drivers as a team.

I have observed that when new files are created, with the powerpoint slide saved in the network drive, all the changes and settings from that point until when you save and close the quizmaker file gets retained in the same folder, but when you open it again from the powerpoint slide (EDIT IN QUIZMAKER button), the file loaded would be somewhere from the temporary local file created, not from the one saved in the network drive. So, further changes are not carried on by that files and we cannot access it when the network drive is not active.

Sometimes, some changes are recovered even when the powerpoint slides are transferred to another laptop (we do this for publishing because the materials are reviewed, and sometimes, away from the network drive to avoid further changes) but most of the time the changes do not apply.

I am hoping to find a solution to be able to control the saving feature as much as we can, so that it would be easier to transfer files without losing the changes and duplicating the materials with slight modifications to cater to different groups who will be using the materials. We are working with the network drive but we do not want to be dependent on it.

Or, maybe, if someone can figure out how we were able to recover the changes we were expecting even when the laptop where we transferred the powerpoint slides was not connected to the network, then, that would be a big help too!
