You asked for it so we built it - the all new Attachment Block. It makes it super easy to add attachments (PDF, Word, Excel, or any filetype) to your Rise courses.
Check out this video (recorded with Peek and hosted on Articulate Review, of course.)
You only need to re-attach the document in the Attachment Block, then re-publish the course. Test the file download again, and you should not see extra characters added to the file name.
Hi again, Lieve. Thanks for the update. In that case, we'd like to take a closer look at your LMS output. Would you be willing to send us a copy of the zipped output folder by clicking here?
We'll delete the file as soon as we're done troubleshooting. Thanks!
Hi Stacey! I'm seeing the same issue on my side - thanks for bringing this up! I'll be sure to get it reported to my team.
In the meantime, right-click the .storytemplate file and choose zip or compress to create a zipped folder. Then, upload the zipped folder to a Rise 360 attachment block.
Hi there, Monarch Media! We've tested this issue again recently and found that you should be able to add .numbers files to attachment blocks without issue. Let me know if I can help further!
I really need a way to control the download. I would like to create an attachment, but not allow users to download it, view only. Is this possible? Thanks!
Hi there, Carrie. There isn't a way to force a view-only experience for your attachment blocks. What type of file are you attaching? Maybe we can come up with another way to display the content in your lesson.
Hi there, Jill. I'll document that this file extension isn't accepted in the attachment block. In the meantime, zipping it would be the only workaround I'm aware of!
We fixed an issue where non-standard file extensions weren't accepted in a Rise 360 attachment block. If you still have trouble attaching a file, please let us know!
I was wondering if Rise 360 tracks attachment downloads at all (or sends learner data to the LMS that tracks attachment downloads). It would be useful to know how many learners are actually engaging with the downloadable material.
Rise 360 doesn't track file downloads. Do you need to be sure learners download a file before moving on?
Try adding a checkbox list with a restricted continue button below the attachment. Learners can check the box to confirm they downloaded the file, then the continue button will activate.
Other folks in the community may have more ideas to share, so I'll open the floor to them!
Is there any way in Rise or Storyline for users(the person taking the course) to upload attachments to a repository or some place that the instructor can retrieve them. That and/or a real-time forum widget would be AWESOME!
Hi ... I have added attachments as PDF but my LMS does not like them and does not open them, so I use hyperlinks to those attachments and it is perfectly fine! Odd but works! I am now wondering is it any way to hide the actual attachments?
Note, I know I could have hyperlinked to outside files but my LMS does not like that either :(
Anyone with a similar issue? or a better solution?
Hi Azi, have you reached out to your LMS support team? They might be able to allow the opening of the attachments in your Rise 360 course or provide a workaround.

Can I just remake the attachment block? Or do I have to remake the whole
course?
Lieve
Hi Lieve!
You only need to re-attach the document in the Attachment Block, then re-publish the course. Test the file download again, and you should not see extra characters added to the file name.
Let me know how it goes!
Hi,
It didn't work. As soon as I upload the course to our LMS, de filename
changes again on download.

I'm actually trying to upload a .storytemplate file as I am making a style guide with Rise, I also got an errors message.

Hi Alyssa! I actually went scrolling back through this thread after I posted yesterday and found the .zip trick, and that worked perfectly.
Great to hear, Stacey! Thanks for the update!
Hi there,
I am having a similar issue with posting a unique file type (.twbx, for a Tableau workbook). Is adding a zipped file still the only solution?
Thanks.
Hi Julie!
Yes, zipping the file is the best way to ensure it will upload successfully to Rise 360. Let me know if you have other questions about that!

I'm finding I can't add outlook template files .oft with this - any suggestions? (Other than adding it as a zip file).

Hi Timothy,
Instructor related activities, uploading attachments, and forum functions are all typically provided by a LMS.
Is there a limit or maximum file size that can be attached? Thanks!
Hi Christin, the maximum file size for each document file, video, audio clip, and image you upload to a Rise 360 course is 5 GB.
