Sorry you're getting stuck! Have a look at this quick recording of my testing--I was able to add the < symbol to a Rise tabs interaction without any issues.
On re-testing it appears that the issue only presents when I type immediately after the symbol without any spaces, e.g. <15. If I add a space following the symbol, as you have, it works.
Browser = Chrome Version 61.0.3163.100 (Official Build) (64-bit)
