Embedding web content

Hi - is it possible to only embed video? When I try to embed other web content, it opens in new window/tab not in the Rise content like I'd like.

Here's an example of what I'd like to embed:

<iframe id="eia_widget" style="width:100%;height:500px" src="//www.eia.gov/opendata/embed/iframe.php?series_id=ELEC.SALES.US-ALL.M;ELEC.SALES.US-RES.M;ELEC.SALES.US-COM.M;ELEC.SALES.US-IND.M&analysis=none" load="iframe_load"></iframe>

Hi, Gail!

Your IFrame code is perfect with one small exception!

/media/ifr/2301885140 needs to be a valid URL.  In other words, the text that goes between the quotes after iframe src needs to be something that will work when pasted into the address bar of your browser.

Here's an example of something that might work better:

https://www.myserver.com/media/ifr/2301885140

Good luck with your project!

it seems that no matter what style parameters i give the iFrame tag, the block always displays the content at the same size, with a border. Will Rise not recognize/respect valid HTML5 compliant elements in the tag?

I've tried <iframe src="<valid URL is here"></iframe> and have also tried specifically adding height and width elements, but the frame remains the same size

If I put this in a valid HTML page, it displays as i would expect it to:

<iframe src="<same valid URL from above>" height="900" width="1800"></iframe>

Good Morning, Matt!

We see the problem, and we'll take a look at a possible fix.

On a related note, it looks like your URL might be a published Storyline course, and we're also considering using Storyline as a lesson type in Rise.  This work is targeted for later this year.

Please let us know if you need anything else, and have a great day!

having another interesting behavior re: an iFrame. I'm embedding a video that is hosted on a 3rd party site. When i author the course in Rise and preview it, i have a "Fullscreen" button available on the video. When I export the course to a SCORM 1.2 file and publish it to my LMS (LITMOS) the fullscreen button disappears, but all other video controls are present.

I've opened a ticket with my LMS, but was curious if you know if this behavior would be related to the issue you have identified with iFrames because it appears as if the "allowfullscreen" option is being ignored within the iframe code...but again, only when published to the LMS.

Hi, Matt!

When you use Rise to embed a video using the allowfullscreen attribute, every parent of that IFrame needs to propagate the same attribute to the browser in order for the browser to permit the fullscreen button.

If a Rise course hosted from the web allows the fullscreen button, but a Rise course hosted inside a Litmos IFrame doesn't allow the fullscreen button, that tells us that Rise is properly passing the allowfullscreen attribute, but Litmos is not.

Please let us know if you have other questions on this!

Hi Thiago,

There isn't an option to change the overall width of Rise, and it will resize based on the device the output is being viewed on.

What are you looking to embed in Rise? Have you already tried using the URL/Embed Code lesson type? If you've run into a problem with it, let us know what's happening and we'll troubleshoot from there!

Ashley (and team),

I'm trying to embed a click-through prototype from a product called InVision. When I do so it cuts off the prototype and has a bunch of white space around it. I'm designing this only for use on mobile, so screen real estate is everything for making this work.

Attached is what I see. I've tried messing with the dimensions in the embed code but sizing it down just increases the white space.

Is there any way I can prevent this? Here's the embed code I'm using:

<iframe width="438" height="930" src="//invis.io/VMDP2W56D" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Note: I know that having the black phone border in the prototype will contribute to the sizing issue, but I plan on removing that. The embedding issue will occur regardless of whether that black phone border is there or not.

Hi Joe,

We use Embedly to embed rich media in Rise courses, which means you can use videos, images, documents and other media from over 400 content providers, such as YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram, and Scribd. See the complete list of supported content providers here.

It should  be as easy as copying the URL for the media you want to use and paste it into Rise.

Where are you hosting the InVision content? I don't see them as one of the Embedly content providers, so that could explain some of the display issue connecting it to Rise.

We are having a slightly different issue with embedding Wistia videos...

The embed codes are somehow including the View in Wistia> in the border of the video...

This allows the user to link directly to the video in Wistia and exposes the source url.

The URL it gives directs to embedly.com  so it could be coming from Embedly...

https://cdn.embedly.com/widgets/media.html?src=https%3A%2F%2Ffast.wistia.net%2Fembed%2Fiframe%2Fpwn4bnxoxi&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcherwell.wistia.com%2Fmedias%2Fpwn4bnxoxi&image=https%3A%2F%2Fembed-ssl.wistia.com%2Fdeliveries%2F5c32eefe6da313aa5e0238c46847ed911ff955b0.jpg%3Fimage_crop_resized%3D960x540&key=5cbac80a25df462a99e58eccd801acc0&type=text%2Fhtml&schema=wistia

Since our courses are proprietary and we charge a fee to customers for them, we don't want these links exposed.

We have not yet found an embed code that allows both the embedding in RISE as well as removes that link...  we've posted a ticket w/ Wistia on it... and are posting here as well to see if anybody else has encountered this problem and has a fix.

This training project has over 50 Rise modules in it, and over 80 videos... to have to upload the videos would be really unwieldy  ...

Hi Mary Beth,

I also wanted to let you know that this is a public forum where you've posted the links to your videos. If you need to edit/remove them so that others can't view your video you can edit your post following the same steps described here for removing contact information from your post.

Let us know what Wistia says, and if you'd like us to take a look and share the link and embed code privately you can always connect with our Support Engineers here.
