HELP please - completion issue with the LMS
Jun 08, 2020
Hi there lovely folks! I'm really hopeful that you may be able to help me? We created a course on Rise and uploaded the SCORM file onto our LMS. About 4% of our organisation is not being marked as complete. Unfortunately this number is significant enough to be causing credibility issues and noise at senior levels.
I tested in scorm cloud (which I haven't used before) and the summary table shows complete and passed with 90% which is an accurate reflection of the test. The bug log is here: https://cloud.scorm.com/sc/guest/ViewDebugLog?logId=ea2a58c6-558e-4472-a0b7-9a983606914e&courseTitle=Selling+Digital+With+a+Human+Touch
I have checked and there were no CRON run issues.
Can you suggest anything else I can ask the technical teams to help resolve this?
We are using Totara 12 as our LMS and our users tend to use IE, edge or chrome.
Your thoughts would be gratefully received
Thanks
Sally-Ann

Hi Sally-Ann,
Thanks for sharing what you've tried so far. Testing in SCORM Cloud is a good idea! Since the course was marked complete there, it sounds like the issue isn't related to the Rise 360 course itself.
Have you been in touch with the users who weren't marked as complete? If so, did they provide any clues as to what is happening on their side? For example, are they getting stuck at a certain point in the course?
Is anyone else seeing this? We use Moodle and RISE courses rendered as SCORM are not being tracked properly. These are courses that have resided on our LMS for months with no issues. Is there a browser issue anyone might be aware of? Thanks. -Jim
Yes, we are having this same issue with Totara 12!
Thanks, Jim and Michelle. We're investigating this problem, and we'll update you as soon as we can!
The issue is beyond just completion, bookmarking is not working in Chrome either.
Thank you, Michelle. We'll be sure to look at bookmarking/resume behavior as well as completion and progress tracking.
Hi Alyssa - Thanks so much for your reply and for looking into this . From a user point of view there is no issue - they complete the course fine and see their quiz result but unlike others seeing the same quiz result their complete marker isn't captured in Totara 12.
For many, after SCO is launched is reported on the LMS nothing else is logged.
The LMS provider have investigated and the only suggestion they have is selecting an additional setting (not needed/recommended before) in the SCORM settings. Underneath compatibility settings there is an option to select auto commit.
If you can contact me directly Alyssa I can provide further detail on user experiences/browsers and put you in contact with our LMS support team.
Very keen to get this resolved asap as Rise is our preferred authoring tool and we are launching 2 new programmes this week and next across our organisation. As you can imagine the issues have caused some frustration.
Michelle and Jim,
Sorry to hear you're experiencing similar issues. Would it be useful to set up a quick call to create a little network of people managing rise courses on Totara? Happy to set up a call if you're interested?
Thanks
S-A
That sounds great, happy to jump on a call. I am in EST and Friday’s tend to be the most open for me with meetings if that works for others.

Hi Sally, We are a Moodle installation not Totara. This problem seems to impact multiple LMS platforms. I haven't found any solutions yet, but I am happy to share whatever we learn. -Jim
We are on Totara 12, with inconsistent behavior. I will provide additional details later today. Working on testing now.
Here are my findings from deep testing on Totara 12:
Chrome v83
FireFox v77
Edge v83
Opera v68
Explorer v11
Can you see my above comment? It's all gray?
Hi Michelle,
Yes, we can see all of your comments. Thanks so much for sharing your findings in Totara! We're taking a close look at this problem from our side, too. We'll update this discussion as soon as we know more!
Thanks! Please let me know if you need any further testing on my end.

Hi Alyssa,
Can you please contact me at Sally-Ann.Bartlett@rubix.com today please?
I can share more of our data and new, similar issues that have come up this morning. This issue is causing credibility issues for both Articulate and our LMS. It's also impacting the release of 2 exec-sponsored programmes which were due to go live last week.
Many thanks
Sally-Ann
Hello, Sally-Ann! I will reach out to you privately via email. If you would like, you can click here to delete your email address from the public discussion thread.
Hi everyone. Thank you for giving us some time to explore this issue.
Chrome has deprecated a technology that was used by many LMSs to allow a course to communicate back to the LMS when the course window is closed. If your LMS hasn't upgraded their system, or if you're using an older version of your LMS that doesn't include an update to address this change, the course cannot communicate progress or completion properly. This causes learners to start over from the beginning instead of resuming a course or recording completion after they close the browser window.
Please reach out to your LMS and find out if they have released an update to address the Chrome changes. If you need support from us with the technical details, please let us know by starting a case with us here.
This is not just with Chrome, Edge has the same issues.

Hey Michelle!
I see that Karl addressed your question in a similar discussion, so I wanted to link that here for anyone following along.
