interactivity with rise

Sep 19, 2017

I need a set of custom buttons to have click-to-reveal / show-hide interactions. I understand there are an optional tab and accordion interaction in Rise, but my course requires custom, image-based buttons to reveal some content.

I thought I can solve it by I exporting it from Adobe Animate. The published file contains HTML5 and JavaSCRIPT files and possibly CSS file. To make it work this three files must be uploaded to the same location. I do not think it is possible in the current stage of Rise.

I would appreciate if somebody will prove me wrong and explain how to make interactions work on the same page (lesson) with custom, image-based buttons by combining different sources with code snippets blocks.

Thank you,

Alex Friedkin

Hi ArgoTea Training,

Thanks for your question! If your published file is hosted on a web server, your can use an embed code to embed the interaction in an Embed/URL lesson or block.

<iframe src="Insert Your URL Here"></iframe>

You could even do the same by building the interaction in Storyline 360, and we're soon launching a Storyline block feature in Rise that will allow you to embed Storyline files seamlessly (no embed codes required!). You can find out more about the Storyline block that's coming soon on our What's New, What's Next page.

Hi Alyssa,

Thank you for your prompt feedback. Unfortunately, it did not work:

1. I uploaded my interaction prototype to my server. It works fine for the direct link.

2. When I embedded it with an iframe as you suggested  I received an error message "The webpage at https://------------.com might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address."

3. Somehow Rise changed the URL from HTTP (as I specified in an iframe) to HTTPS, which probably is the reason that site was blocked. - see the attached screenshot.

What do you think?

Hi Alex,

Since Rise uses secure https, embedded content must also use https to work properly. You'll want to make sure the source URL for your content starts with https—assuming the website that hosts your content supports it.

If your URL starts with https and your embedded content is still missing in Rise, test the URL in this security checker. Sometimes the hosting site is secure but the content itself isn't. The security checker will let you know.

Hi Fiona,

Thanks for reaching out! I don't have a specific date for release, but I can tell you that we're getting very close to launch. We'll share the big news here once it's ready!
