MP4 videos do not play on some Mac/Safari computers and Apple mobile devices

Jul 31, 2017

Hi, I have trouble with MP4 video playback.

The videos work fine for most customers. However, some users with Safari on Mac and some iPhones/iPads cannot play any video. All they get is an error message about potential network or server failure. We tried reloading/rebooting/default browser settings without effect. The videos work nicely if the affected user tries Chrome browser instead.

Do you have any idea? I appreciate any help.

Best,
Dieter

Hello Dieter and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Are you publishing for LMS or Web? You mention a server error, so perhaps for the web.

Do you experience the same issue if you upload the content to Tempshare?

If you're publishing for LMS, would you be able to test via SCORM Cloud? This is an industry standard for testing SCORM content. If it doesn't work in SCORM Cloud, we'll want to take a look at the file with the videos.

There are some known reasons here why videos don't play, but since it sounds like your videos are only not playing on certain devices, that may not be the case.
