Rise videos not playing in Safari

Jan 08, 2021

When inserting .mp4 videos into Rise courses using the 'Video block' the video is failing to play in Safari on iMac or Macbook pro (but will happily play in Chrome on Windows and Mac). Has anyone else come up against this problem?

We seem to have overcome this problem by using a storyline block to insert the video, getting rid of the black screen as per this previous post (https://community.articulate.com/discussions/rise-360/placeholder-for-storyline-videos). But we wondered if this is a more widespread problem/there is a more elegant solution?

Hi Kelly! Sorry to hear you're having trouble with videos on Safari in Rise 360.

Could you please share some more details with us to help:

  • What is your Safari version number and OS?
  • Could you please share a screenshot of the error or error message?
  • Have you tried clearing your cache, removing the block, and reuploading the video?
  • Is this happening in Preview, Published content, or both?

Hi Renz,

Thanks for reaching out.

We have experienced problems using OS version High Sierra v10.13.6, safari version unknown.

We have tried clearing cache, removing the block and reuploading the video into a new video block. The error still persists.

The error is not happening in the preview or the review link. It’s just happening when the SCORM file uploaded to an LMS. Error image attached.

If you need any further information please do reach out and I will do my best to provide it.

Kind regards,
Kelly.
