SCORMS not reporting repeat attempts to LMS.

Jul 06, 2021

We have a few courses in Rise that we have spun out to SCORM 2004 4th edition. These SCORMS report a single attempt to the LMS, and if you do not close out of the SCORM and repeat the assessment, it will record the higher score. However, if you close out of the SCORM, it will not recognize the second attempt. There are no obvious Moodle settings causing this, nor is there an apparent (to us) issue with exporting the Rise package. Anyone ever dealt with this or know a solution?

Hi Robert! Phil is spot on. Most learning management systems consider a course to be in review mode after meeting the tracking requirement. In review mode, resume data is no longer sent to the LMS, which prevents learners from accidentally changing their course status from complete back to incomplete.

So would it be better to change the settings for when it’s an attempt or to change them make the learner go back and retake the assessment. I am wondering if perhaps we can set completion to 100%of the slides, and not allow the learner to get to the last slide if they don’t pass? Would it then report the grade the got on the quiz to the lms?

To document the fix we have come up with, within the settings for exporting Rise courses, you can change the completion settings (what constitutes and attempt). If you change to passed/incomplete. The object will not report the completed attempt to the LMS unless the learner receives a passing grade. If they fail, a grade is reported, but the package remains open for the learner to attempt again.

Another solution is to force new attempt as listed above, which we ultimately did to ensure learners had to repeat the material if they wanted to pass (obviously they missed something) as opposed to only making them review the material if they wanted to improve a passing grade.
