Translation in Rise
Apr 14, 2017
Hi All,
I have a Rise course whitten in English that some of our users in non english spkeaking countries are struggling to understand.
From what I understand there is no option to easlily translate your content into multiple languages in Rise. I was looking for a work around and found that Google offers a plugin to automatically translate any webpage: http://translate.google.com/manager/website/?hl=en
I understand the quality of the translation will not be great but it is a start.
I tried to get it to work but they ask you to "Copy and paste the following code snippets onto every page you want to translate" I tried to do this on the .index.html page but it did not work.
Has anyone tried this and got it to work?
thanks
Nigel

Hi there, Nigel! Thanks for starting this discussion.
We're working on a translation feature in Rise, but until it's rolled out, I'm excited to see how you make out with this workaround!
Hi Crystal- we use a 3rd party vendor to translate. They typically translate our published storyline files (scorm 1.2) Since they do that currently, would they be able to translate with Rise? Thanks in advance for your help!
Hi Meghan!
Once we roll out the translation feature you'll be able to export the course contents for translation, and import in the changes.
It's a feature targeted for Q3 '17 - so a bit later this year.
Let us know if you come across any other ideas for translation in the meantime!
Good to hear that the translation feature will be released later this year. It is a very important requirement for us too!
We are really looking forward to getting the translation feature in Rise as we work a lot with international and European projects and all of these courses have to be translated. The translation tool in Storyline is so helpful to us and saves huge amounts of time. It would be great if you could keep us updated on when this feature will be available.
Just a note on using the translations tool in Storyline if you are not used to doing it: Remember some translated words are much longer than in English e,g, German so you need to leave plenty of space in your text boxes etc. to allow for this.
Hi Karyn! Yes, we realize this would be a help to many customers. As Ashley mentioned, it is targeted for for Q3 of this year.
Good note and reminder on the translations :) Sounds like you speak from experience on that.
Hello! Has there been on update on when we'll be able to translate Rise content? Thanks!
Same question here. We're at the end of Q3, correct? I'm working on a big project that will require translation into Japanese. This new feature will save us a lot of work. Updates would be GREATLY appreciated. We're on a deadline. :) Thanks!
Hi there, Sadie and Daniel. Thanks for checking in. We've actually had to push back development of the translation feature in Rise. It is still planned, but I don't have an ETA to share with you currently.
I completely respect your deadline, so hopefully this information can help you budget your time appropriately. If we're able to again target a release timeframe, we'll let you know the good news!
That's a bummer. OK, guess I'll warm up the copy/paste key combo fingers. :)
Also bummed...we have a client who needs a lot of content into 5 languages.
I'm an eLearning specialist in the localization/translation industry, this feature is needed in Rise.
XLF would be great, but Word is okay too.
I am also in global content development and am wondering what the actual process would be to translate a course in Rise.
Would it require copying and pasting text in a new course?
Hi Jeff,
Right now you could duplicate an existing Rise course and then use the copy/paste functionality to replace text.
We've still got a translation feature on our roadmap, so as we get closer to locking that feature down we'll let you know an estimated release date!
Please can you let us know when the translation feature is likely to be available? This is something we could really use right now.
Thanks
Karyn
Hi Karyn,
I don't have an estimated release timeline right now - but we'll share here once we have more info!
Also, just an FYI it looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email! No worries, this Peek video will show you how to remove it if you'd like.
We also create global content, which is translated in 17 languages. Currently our vendor has suggested not to use Rise because everything would need to be updated manually, and even need to create video captions in a separate program (which would be a huge pain from the development side of things), unlike Storyline. So this update would be huge.
Hi Ashley, Chrystal and Leslie,
It is now end of November and 7 months ago you informed the members of this community about the upcoming translation feature in Rise (targeted in Q3-2017).
Do you already have some updates?
Thanks!
Hi, would be great to know what the estimated release timeline is! More and more we get the request to make the courses in a different language!
Thanks, Margit
ya we need to output for translation! Major need at the corp level
Hi all,
It's still on our roadmap to have a translation feature, and this feature is one of a handful up next for our team to dive into.
There are a few other things in the pipeline before that, but as soon as we have more information we'll share here as we don't have an estimated release time today.
This will be a hugely utilized feature for us. We are updating all of our global modules for 2018 which will require a TON of translation work with our third-party vendor. I am excited by Rise and have been utilizing that platform for most of these updates as I am hoping it is more i-device friendly than Articulate has proven to be through our LMS.
Hi Liz,
We'll certainly keep you posted here on the translation of Rise content, and to help out keep in mind the labels can be exported. Hope that makes it a bit easier!
Hello,
Would love if this could be prioritized. We are looking to utilize Rise more extensively, but require translation and are basically shelving the use of Rise until it is available.
Ashley,
Do you happen to have a time frame for the translation feature in Rise? Will it definitely happen before mid 2018? This is major factor in determining if we build our course in Rise or Storyline.
Thank you,
Joe
Hi Joe,
No update to share yet, but it's still up next for the team to work on! We’ve got a few other things that are currently in progress, so I'll keep you posted here once the translation feature is ready! You can also keep an eye on all things being released in Rise by following the “What’s New” page and checking out the Rise Version history.
