Accessibility in Rise
Dec 01, 2016
Hi,
As mentioned on the website under FAQ for Rise "Are Rise courses compliant with accessibility guidelines?
Rise employs many modern web standards for accessibility, and additional accessibility improvements are in development."
Could you please specify in detail which of these are supported in current version:
WCAG AA, WAI-ARIA Labels, Section 508, DDA, Equality Act and Screen Reader Supports.
Thanks
Mayuresh

Brian, can you give us an update on your progress with accessibility concerns?
Hi Roberta,
Thanks for checking in and happy New Year!
We're still working on things like keyboard navigation and hope to have that ready within the beginning of this year!
I was also talking with a few members of our team earlier, and they're using discussions such as this one to understand more about what accessibility features you need/want and how that impacts compliance. So if you have any other thoughts or ideas please share them here! Our product team loves hearing new ideas-- you can also share yours with us right here. 😁
Just adding my personal Articulate account to this thread, to continue hearing about updates.
My contract ends in February and so does my access to Articulate 360 :-(
Thanks Ruth for checking in.
Keyboard navigation in Rise should be finished up in just a few weeks, we'll post here as soon as we can!
If you're looking for additional contract work to continue using Articulate 360, you may want to check our ELH Jobs page too.
Thanks for that link Ashley, what a great idea to have this space to advertise!
I wish I could speak German now!
Hi Ruth,
It looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.
thanks to Articulate 360 team for doing such a great job on continuous improvement in Rise for Accessibility and other additions. Hope you make Rise best online responsive development tool with more new features and interactive templates.
Thanks Mayuresh - I passed that along to our team!
Hi there,
We've received feedback that some elements in Rise are very light in color, to the point that they are difficult or impossible to see for folks with less strong eyesight.
Is there an option to increase the contrast? The specific feedback was regarding the Multiple Response checkboxes and the Fill in the Blank answer line, but that same light gray is used in other places as well. I think it's particularly problematic when the light gray is used for very thin lines.
We appreciate the attention that the Articulate team is giving to accessibility improvements!
Hi Jessica,
Thanks for that feedback. I know we shipped some text contrast changes last fall, to ensure that the contrast ratio used throughout Rise courses is WCAG compliant. I'll pass along the feedback about applying that to all elements such as check boxes and other pieces the user needs to interact with.
Hello everyone,
I'm adding myself to this thread, as accessibility is a high priority for us (higher education setting in Ontario, Canada), and having just purchased a subscription to Articulate360, we'd very much like to be able to use Rise to develop content.
I look forward to hearing of new developments in this area.
Thanks Agnieszka for joining this discussion! We're continuing to work on accessibility features and keyboard navigation will be up next!
I'd love to hear a bit more about the top accessibility features you'd like to see in Rise. What is critical for your projects? What's nice to have?
Hello Ashley,
Thanks for the quick reply. Here are some of our priorities:
Nice to have:
Hope this adds more insight.
Perfect, Agnieszka! Exactly what I was looking for.
I shared it with the team as I know they're continuing to discuss and identify other accessibility features to work on after keyboard navigation, so this is really helpful!
Hi Agnieszka, thank you for this list! It is exactly what we need as well.
Our clients are looking for the same accessibility features as well. Thanks Agnieszka! Please post an update when these features will be available so we can keep our clients informed.
Just contributing to this discussion regarding the importance of being able to design fully accessible courses in higher ed. Will be frequently checking back for updates as the compliance of Rise with 508 and WCAG standards.
Thanks Karen, Lotta and Mary for chiming in as well! We'll let you know here as soon as we have an update.
Hi Ashley and team,
Great to know that accessibility improvements are in the pipeline. Can you share a timeline for these changes? We are currently assessing several different training tools and accessibility is one of our criteria.
The products that I develop need to have a Closed Captioning button feature. Is this being developed or considered as well?
Hey Brandy,
We have a great Closed Captioning feature available in Storyline 360 if you haven't checked it out.
Sounds like you'd like to see that in Rise as well and I encourage you to share your thoughts and use-case for this product with our team here. We love hearing your ideas :)
Agnieszka's priorities are exactly what my college is looking for in adopting a product in March to roll out a new orientation for our online students, among other new initiatives... I'm adding myself to this discussion to continue to get updates! Thank you! :)
Adding to get update on this matter. Thanks.
Hi everyone,
We know that accessibility in Rise is essential. We’re making it a priority to make sure everyone can use Rise courses.
Our ultimate goal is to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). We’ve already taken some initial steps to meet that goal. For example, we’ve increased the contrast for built-in course features, added alt text for images, and added keyboard-accessible navigation. We’re currently working on full screen reader support.
We know there’s more to be done and we’d love your input. If you’re interested in helping us make Rise more accessible, please sign up for the private beta forum on E-Learning Heroes. We’ll release product updates to this beta and gather your feedback to refine Rise accessibility features.
We appreciate your support. Thank you!
