Labled Graphic interaction: marker allignment and stange display of marker fields

Jul 04, 2018

Hi all,

I'm about to set up a labled graphic and just don't like what the result looks like, as visible on the attachment.

You see, that I used 10 markers and even though I had used guide spots on the "uploaded graphic" to allign the markers, one can still see that the markers are just not fully aligned. Is it really not possible to allign or move several markers at the same time?

Moreover the screenshot shows, how the marker text - once clicked - pops open against the left side and thus hides the guy.  First I had that the other way around - the guy was on the right and markers on the left - and then the market text pops up to the right side and hides part of the guy. Personally I find, this looks ugly cause I would like the guy to be visible and all text fields open to the empty side. Is it maybe possible to tell Rise, to which side a marker text field should open?

Btw, also well visible the still poor quality after I have uploaded a good quality PNG file to Rise. But for this another thread of mine is still running.

Thanks in advance for your advice and best regards
Roland

Hi there Roland!

Thanks for posting your question here in the community!

You are correct that currently there is no feature for aligning markers on an image. Personally I haven't encountered a need to do that yet as I always placed the markers on various places on an image (not in a straight row) so it's actually the first time I see this use case with the labeled graphic lesson, but very cool use of it!

I would strongly recommend you submit a feature request for a functionality that would allow alignment of markers in a labeled graphic. We're always adding new features to Rise and hearing from our customers like you about what you want and need is very important to us.

Same goes for the placement of the marker pop-up box. Currently, there's no way to control where it sits, as you discovered. I've also run into this issue where I wanted to place the text box somewhere specific so it didn't hide something in the image, so I've also encountered your exact issue. I have personally submitted a feature request for this to our dev team, but again, the more requests we get for a certain feature, the more likely it is to be implemented so I would suggest you submit a feature request for this as well!

Also, maybe you can consider creating your custom interaction in Storyline, and then inserting it into your Rise course as a Storyline block. Rise is a much more template based tool with more limited features and functionalities in terms of being able to customize every tiny detail. Storyline on the other hand DOES let you customize every tiny detail. You could probably build this in Storyline with the Markers (and with markers you can place the text box that pops up wherever you want) and then insert it into a Blocks lesson as a Storyline block. That's another option for you! Hope this helps you going forward ! Best of luck!

Hi Nicole,

Thx a lot for your super fast and helpful reply. Super helpful to know, that I should add a feature request, no matter what. So far I skipped that when I saw, that my request was already posted.

In that case I will post the same request as you did, for the placement of the marker text box. And I can let you know that I have already placed a request for the marker allignment. So maybe you post one too to underline ... ? Whatever :-).

And of course I would like to use more SL interactions in my Rise projects. Yet, my project customer - our HR dept. - forces me to only use Rise interactions. Wired story!

Again, thanks for your input and best regards
Roland
