Mobile view of tab interaction not working in Rise

Mar 01, 2017

Hi there

I have created a Rise course with a tab interaction with 4 tabs. When it is viewed on a mobile device - in this case HTC Android - the user is not able to see the 3rd and 4th tab in portrait view or the 4th tab in landscape view. An arrow does appear to show that there is more information but nothing happens when you click on it.

Link to course for your information:

I also attach 2 images showing the issue I am experiencing.

I can, of course, change the content to another interaction to get around the issue but it would be great if you could take a look and see if it is something that can be fixed to make the tab interaction fully responsive.

Many thanks

Hi Alena,

Thanks for the images and a link to your Rise course - I gave this a test on my iPhone 6S with iOS10 to see how it would work there, and although the tabs are not initially visible you can scroll left to right to see them in portrait view (the scroll bar isn't visible until you begin scrolling) and the same in landscape view as well. In the one picture you shared, do you see the little purple button with the > arrow? That also looks like you can use it to show the next tab - but I didn't see that one on my iPhone.

Let me know if you're able to attempt the scrolling and if it still doesn't work. Then I'll check with one of my colleagues who has an Android phone to see if we've got a possible bug specific to Android.

Hi Ashley

The purple arrow didn't show up for either me or my colleague on our actual phones. It only shows up on the mobile preview on the desktop.

I've just tried the course on my iphone 4s using iOS9.0.2 and I can scroll across but there is no obvious way that the learner would know to do this. I think the arrows need to be showing as they do in the preview mode so that the learner knows what they should be doing.

Also when I scroll across in portrait view there is a break in the text on the headers. Screenshot attached. Please can you take a look?

Many thanks

Hi Alena,

When was this course last updated? We fixed an issue just recently with text wrapping, so you may need to re-export the course or grab the share link again to have those changes take effect.

As for the scrolling behavior, that's a feature of mobile Safari and mobile Chrome on iOS devices that it won't display a scroll bar until you begin scrolling. Since the desktop preview of a mobile device has no way for you to scroll through it with your finger, you'll use the arrow there.

Hi Ashley - this course was updated this week. All the other instances of broken text we were experiencing before have now been rectified - they were appearing in statement blocks. This is a brand new issue. I have just asked my colleague to test the link on his iPhone 5s with ios 10.2.1 (latest version) and he still sees the text break on the 3rd and 4th tabs.

Thanks Alena - it's certainly odd that he was able to see it with the same iOS as I was using. Did your colleague see the same issue with the text wrapping at the bottom as you showed in this forum discussion? I had a colleague test that one on an Android Samsung S6 and she saw the same behavior as you shared, where "using machines" goes to the third line vs. staying on the second line as I saw. So I'm going to get a report filed with our team on both of these text wrapping issues - and let me know if your colleague whose on the iPhone 5 saw the same thing with that other text wrapping issue.

To keep information consistent - I'm going to stay in this discussion and will link it back to your other one!

I'm just sorry I didn't see it to confirm sooner! But it's now in the hands of our Rise team, so they'll be taking a deeper look at the behavior. I'll let you know as soon as we have an update on this issue. Thanks so much again for letting us know about this, and I’m sorry if it’s slowing you down.

Hey Penelope.  We found an issue where the sorting activity is not working on mobile devices with iOS 11.3.  It looks like this update from Apple has caused issues with drag and drop apps. We've logged a bug report with them as well, and we'll update you here with any new information we get!
