New Feature in Rise: Block Templates
Feb 20, 2018
Hey community peeps!
We’re really stoked to share a new Rise feature with you: block templates. Build Rise courses faster by saving existing blocks and their content as templates, then reusing those templates in other lessons.
And, if you’re an Articulate 360 Teams member, you can also easily share the block templates you create with your team, saving you development time.
Learn more about it here: Creating, Sharing, and Reusing Block Templates.
Have a peek at this quick video where CTO Arlyn Asch explains this great new Rise feature:

Great addition to Rise!
Thank you for your comment, David!
The templates are not loading on my end. Anything I can do instead? I was working with templates quite seamlessly until now. Thank you for any light you can shed on this! See attached image. It stays in a holding pattern and nothing happens.
Hey Nina! Sorry you're getting stuck--a fresh install of Storyline 360 should do the trick! Follow the steps in that link and let me know if you're back up and running.
Hi, Alyssa - I did that already before I posted here. The issue is in Rise and not Storyline. Still looking for a way to fix this, or wait for the next update?!? Thank you for trying to help!
Hi Nina,
In Rise you can add in images and photos using a few of the different lessons and block types, but the templates are for use in Storyline or Studio as they are slide based. Can you tell me more about how you're trying to insert these templates into Rise, and I can point you in the right direction?
I like a lot this feature. I also like the sharing option. But I would appreciate being able to delete, or somehow hide, a shared template that I do not need.
Hi Mourad,
Glad to hear that you are liking this new feature of block templates. You are correct and currently, you can only rename, share, and delete templates you created.
I will get this feature request submitted to our team on your behalf. Thanks for sharing.
I LOVE templates! They make multi module courses so easy to create. Today I seem to be having trouble loading them... any reason that you can think of? Any other blocks work without issue but was hoping to build out this module quickly and very similar to another.
Thanks!
E
We too love Block Templates and we've used them in over 170 courses. Sadly, today, we find them all missing. Is anyone else having issues with the Templates?
Hi Cameron and Elizabeth,
I confirmed I'm having the same trouble adding in Block templates to my Rise courses. Although I can see them listed (as your image shows too, Cameron) the Thumnail image is gone and clicking on them doesn't do anything.
I've alerted our Rise web team, and you'll likely see an update shortly on our Articulate Status page and I'll also update this discussion once I have more info.
Thank you, I 've opened a ticket for this and really long SCROM times. We've also noticed since then that our png files with transparent backgrounds are showing up with white backgrounds as if they were .jpg files.
Let's hope they can get the gremlins figured out soon :)
Thanks, Cameron. I'll also let the team know you posted here.
Elizabeth, I promise we'll stop feeding them after midnight. Once we've got this fixed up I'll share here, but in case I'm not at my desk, you'll want to keep an eye on the Status page!
And, just like that - we're back up and running. 😀
Rise block templates and exporting Rise courses should all be working normally again. Sorry for the trouble!
My templates are not loading on my end yesterday and today. I was working with templates quite seamlessly until now. Thank you for any light you can shed on this!
Hi there, Wendy. Can you try signing out of Rise 360, refreshing your browser, and then signing in again? If that doesn't work, let us know if templates aren't loading in the template window or if they aren't loading in the lesson.
i had a problem yesterday where the Templates showed up in the Template Library, but would not copy into the Lesson. Each time I had to hit Cancel, as the Templates did not come into the Lesson no matter how long I waited.
I have not tried today.
EDIT: I just did a quick test, and I'm having the same problem where it just spins instead of inserting the Template.
Thanks for checking that out, Karl! We are trying to find out under what conditions we can reproduce this behavior.
Let me know what you think!
Second edit: two hours later the identical problem is still occurring with the same Templates.
I closed my Rise editing browser and restarted, and it seems to resolved the issue for now.
I did the same thing yesterday, but the problem cropped again several times later.
When the problem comes up it affects all block types.
It also occurs with both recently created Templates and existing (older) ones.
Using the latest version of Chrome.
Thanks for those additional details, Karl. We want to help you troubleshoot this further, so I'm going to connect you with our Support Engineers. I've opened a case for you, and you'll hear from the team soon!
This is happening to me too - its been an issue for the last few days! Really throws a spanner in my work
This has happened to me as well and I need to close the browser to make it work or create a brand new block with the template.
What's odd is that it will work just fine, and then randomly stop working.
And then randomly start working again. There is no pattern and happens across browsers.
The only remedy is to complete shutdown the browser and start again, although yesterday that did not work either as the inserting message would still be there when I re-opened the course.
It wastes a lot of development time when essential Rise functions do not work.
