New Rise feature: Custom Text Labels

Hi everyone,
I’m happy to share that we’ve added a handy new Rise feature: the ability to customize the text used in labels. Now all built-in course elements, such as buttons and lesson headers, can say exactly what you want them to say.
This additional flexibility is especially useful if you author courses in languages other than English. To make the localization process even easier, we’ve even provided default labels in French, German, and Spanish. You can customize each language’s labels as well, of course.
Check out Arlyn’s video for a quick walkthrough:
Enjoy playing with this much-requested feature!

Hey Matt - just a quick update I reported this to our QA team, as it seems that label wasn't included in the items to be able to edit/modify so they'll be adding that a list of Rise updates they're working on. Thanks for bringing it to our attention and we'll let you know once it's rolled out.
Is there any way to eliminate lesson numbers, or change them? For example, I have a course that includes 4 strategies -- each strategy is it's own lesson. I'd like to have an introduction lesson, a lesson for each of the 4 strategies, and a summary lesson. Since I have an introduction lesson, "Strategy 1" is listed as "Lesson 2". I'd like to be able to have "Strategy 1 - Mental Readiness" listed at the end of the introduction lesson rather than having something like "Lesson 2 - Strategy 1: Mental Readiness" since that could be confusing.
Additionally, is there a way to change a label for a specific lesson? In the same scenario, the summary lesson would not be a strategy, so I would not want the label to use "strategy" at the end of the last strategy lesson.
Hi Dawn,
Lesson numbers are currently set within Rise, and can't be eliminated or edited - but I could see how that type of feature would be really helpful in your course set up, so I've passed it along to the team. You can also always share ideas with them directly using this form. Also the labels you're able to set are course specific, so the changes won't impact individual lessons.
Perhaps you could look at including the Strategy titles as a section listing to break down the lessons and help your users follow along? This is a Peek video I recorded before about the differences between sections and lessons and how to move them around - but it hopefully gives you a sense of the section titles and how those may help you.
Thanks for the recommendations, Ashley!
I happened upon your website the other day actually. It looks fantastic. Great use of Rise
Hello Matt - Just wanted to let you know that we have released an update to Rise that has resolved the issue of not being able to edit the 'next step' button of your process interaction within Rise.
Just let us know if you need anything further.
I have noticed that changes to the label are not course specific. Once the change has been made it applies to all courses in my dashboard. Is there any way of making it course specific?
Hi Claire
see this post from Adam - specifically pt 2
We made label sets common across courses for two reasons:
1) In our research, a lot of companies change the text of something like "Course" to "Module." This terminology is common for every course, so having to keep changing it for every course would be a pain.
2) If you want to have a label set that's course-specific, that's no problem. Just hit Create New and you're customize away for that course!
It's best of both worlds! Hope this clarifies.
Hi Claire,
Changes you make to text labels impact all your Rise courses that use the same label set. We recommend creating a new label set when you need to customize them so you won't accidentally change the labels in other Rise courses. You may also want to take a look at this article on how to modify the label sets within Rise.
Can you add the ability to edit the Homepage Instructions Buttons to be more flexible please?
The Details button drops down to the Lessons list on the Homepage and the Start Course Button goes to Lesson 1 automatically.
It would be great if there was more control on these, even the ability to hide them if not required.
For example, I am creating an example which will be used as an interim page before users go to an externally managed course through our LMS where the Rise option is useful to provide clean instruction before the user clicks the button to go to the external Link.
I would like the buttons to be on the homepage if possible of the different languages, but at the moment I have a lesson for each Language so if English is current set for Lesson 1 then the Start Button will go to English, which may not be required?
I hope this makes sense.
Thanks Darren for posting here, and also starting a new discussion on this idea! I responded in the other one, so just wanted to link it here.
Hi all,
Just a quick note to let you know we released some additional Rise label enhancements yesterday. You can now export text labels for built-in course elements, such as buttons and lesson headers, customize or translate them, then import them back into Rise. Here are directions on how to do so.
Let us know if you need anything else or have any questions.
This is great new feature for Non-English.
Labels not translated to Japanese are headache to me for creating course in Japanese here.
Now I tested and it all works in Japanese.
Thank you for great additon!
Just wanted to flag that if you edit the label text in the 'Labels tab (in Settings) and then click on one of the other tabs (i.e. 'Navigation' or 'Theme') then when you return to the 'Labels' tab the changes appear to not have been saved. The changes have been saved though as if you click on 'Close' and then re-open Settings, it is the amended label text that you see.
Is there a way to remove "# of #" under the Lesson Global labels?
Hi Laura,
The numbers are automatically set by Rise - but you can change the text surrounding it. The current set up is Lesson # of #. You can change those elements in bold.
If you'd like to see support for removing the numbers entirely, we'd love to have that feedback in a Feature request here!
Hi, Just wondering why one of my labels has meta data after it? I can't seem to get rid of it. For example - I am changing "Read more" to "Watch Video" and it is sending the company name after so it says "Watch Video" + company name.....I can see where it is doing this but can't edit and save the change....any suggestions?
Hi Patty,
Are you seeing that on a label or when inserting a video using the Lesson/block type? There is an option there to "show meta data"?
If you're seeing something different - could you share some screenshots, or even take a Peek of the problem? You can include the "Share" link here in your reply!
I'm new to Rise, but my company does translations in batches of 13-17 languages, so this is very useful.
Hi Ashley. I'm having the same issue as Dawn. I'm creating a course that has an Introduction, then Lessons 1 - 5, and then a Summary. I need an introduction (or a Lesson 0) so that my actual lessons can be numbered correctly as Lessons 1 - 5. Your response to Dawn was 7 months ago. Has there been any change to the default lesson numbering since then? Thanks!
Hi Nancy,
Thanks for checking in!
We haven't added this feature yet, but the more we hear from customers what you need the better! We'll keep you posted if this one makes the roadmap for Rise features. 🙂
Hi Nancy,
Lesson numbering in Rise is still set by default, but I can certainly see how the ability to customize the numbering would be helpful for your course. I'll be sure to pass your idea along to my team--thanks for letting us know how we can make things better!
looking for a mechanism to provide a custom message if learner passes a "quiz". Most course creation tools have the ability to edit/customize the message, using HTML. How, where can when go to create a custom message. For example, if user passes quiz, then the message would say, "Congratulations you passed with X score, go to this site http://xxx.com and update your technical skills profile" Which file can be edited? Looked in the scorm package but could not find. Please advise.
Hi. My labels just aren't sticking. I made a new label set based off English called "English - Module" and you can see from the attachments what it looks like before I edit. Then I change wherever it says "COURSE" to "MODULE" and if I click close, OR go to any other tab, and then come back, it's all reverted back to the original labels.
Hi Miriam,
What browser are you working in while editing the Rise labels? Are you viewing this on the same course, as the labels will be specific to a course when you create a new one, not throughout all of your Rise courses.
