Open text questions in Rise

Jul 16, 2018

Hello, Is it possible to have an open text question in Rise but to switch off the 'correct answer text'. I just want feedback that the user can look at and compare it with their own answer.

Also, to save a Users answers - do they just need to copy and paste it or is their a facility for this?

Thanks

Susan

Hi Susan.  Both great questions!

Here's how you can make those changes with a quiz question.  In Quiz Settings, you can switch the Reveal Answers feature off, and users won't see the correct answer or any feedback for quiz questions.

For your second thought, it sounds like you need to be able to refer back to what users already entered into a text field.  Rise doesn't use variables and references the same way Storyline does.  If you have a single interaction where you'd like to recall the users' answers, would it make sense to build it in Storyline and add it as a Storyline block in Rise?  You get the best of both worlds that way!

I know this is a really old post, but I think the information is wrong. Or maybe it worked 4 years ago? At this time (2022) there's no setting for this for open text questions. This is a really frustrating revelation. I can't believe all these years into Rise there still isn't an option for a question that doesn't receive correct/incorrect feedback.

Hi Kristen! You're right -- the fill-in-the-blank question type will still mark the question incorrect even if you switch the "Reveal Answers" feature off.

For now, the best way to include open text questions in your Rise 360 courses is to create a survey using a third party tool (like Google Forms, Typeform, or something similar) and embed the survey in a multimedia embed block.
