I am creating a lesson and duplicated it to use as a template for another lesson I am creating. I am unable to remove an image in the original lesson. I have tried the edit button in the block, and it only gives me the option to replace or tag the image. Also, there is text in a column to the right of the image (which I want to keep).

Since the image is inserted using an image block, it assumes an image is in the block. If there's no image, then the block would be empty.
You should delete the block with the image if you don't want an image. Or you can replace the existing image.
What some people do for lessons like this is add an a placeholder image with text on it and some instructions on the text.
