RISE - Changing Default Content/Text
Apr 10, 2018
Hello,
Question: Is there a setting that enables you to change the default filler content/text?
Example: "When we show up to the present moment with all of our senses, we invite the world to fill us with joy. The pains of the past are behind us. The future has yet to unfold. But the now is full of beauty simply waiting for our attention."
I would like to never again see the filler text Rise uses.
Please forgive me for asking this question if it has already been answered in the forums.
Kind Regards,
Joseph

Hi Joseph! Thanks for candidly sharing your thoughts. Nobody liked my idea of a bunch of Yogi-isms as placeholders. 😄
The text content is required as a placeholder, and also meant to be an example of how your lessons and blocks might look. I'll share your thoughts with our team. Would you prefer to see your own 'lorem ipsum' text in there?
I hope Rise is otherwise helping you to quickly build beautiful e-learning!
Thanks Crystal, Rise has become a very great tool for development!
I'd prefer not to read someone's ideals/beliefs as a placeholder while I am designing.
Currently I create templates with filler content that relates more to the industry of my clients as a solution. (So they won't look at me like I am crazy with the current placeholder text LOL)
Personally, when I design for myself, I have certain passages, quotes, and scripture that really inspire me that I would like to have as one of the default options...if this feature is added.
Hopefully I'm making sense. Options to choose Lorem Ipsum, Quick Brown Fox or something...and/or an option where you can choose to overwrite all placeholder content with you own custom so you won't have to create templates just to have your own sample content.
Thanks, Joseph and I'll definitely pass that insight along.
In the meantime, have you looked at using the block templates in Rise? That way you could set up your custom text and use that to build any new Rise courses.
Also, I love these other ideas shared here for placeholder text (and here).
Hi, we've just spotted this same placeholder text in our xliff files for a couple of different modules that we are preparing for translation: "When we show up to the present moment with all of our senses, we invite the world to fill us with joy. The pains of the past are behind us. The future has yet to unfold. But the now is full of beauty simply waiting for our attention." but it doesn't appear in our course. Any idea how it can be not visible within the course, but be in the xliff file?
Hi there, Nigel. We see "orphaned" text included in the XLIFF if a block has been added to a lesson, and then changed to another block that no longer includes the text. In case you need to revert to the original block type, we don't drop any of the data that was entered (by default or manually).
Is it possible that a text block that originally contained that placeholder text was changed (not deleted) to another block type?
Hi,
It's been a couple of years since the original post, but could I ask if a change to Lorem Ipsum text is still being planned? If not, please could it be made available as the default?
I ask for the same reasons Joseph Willis Jr lists and in relation to our editorial policy.
Many thanks!
Nick
Hi Nick, thanks for checking in! We still have eyes on this request, so thanks for letting us know it's something you'd like to see in a future update.
This feature isn't on our roadmap right now, but we'll let you know if that changes!
Hi - I'm also interested in this feature.
It's very hard to spot Lorem Ipsum text with what's put into the default.
Can you at least change your Lorem Ipsum text to something standard that everyone will recognize as such? Even if it's not customizable, but at least a universally recognized Lorem Ipsum would be better than what's currently included.
That way if something is accidentally left in, a client will know that it's just place holder text, and not something that's in the actual content.
Thanks for your feedback, Influent Strategies. We'll let you know if we make any changes in the future that will help.
Be advised, this placeholder text is now showing up in the wild as finished content. I’d strongly suggest a warning to users that checks for this before publication compilation if you aren’t going to implement custom ipsum.
If the default block text is showing up in a course, it's simply a case where a block was inserted but the text was not edited by the developer. Any course requires basic QA to catch these issues.
You can create custom template blocks if you don't like the Articulate default text.
When looking at this text, I can immediately see that this could be very offensive to some people that have endured a lot. Things unfortunately just don't go away and we need to be mindful of other peoples experiences and pain.
