Nichola - IE11 is not one of the supported browsers for authoring. But learners can view Rise courses in IE11. To view a Rise course in IE11, you have two choices.
1) Click the SHARE link at the top of the course, and then view that URL in IE11
2) Click the EXPORT link at the top of the course and and view the output in IE11.
Have you tried uploading it to a web server or LMS to see how it displays? Rise courses can be export for web or LMS, but offline viewing isn't currently supported. If that's a feature you'd like to see, please let us know!
If you don't have access to upload to your web server or LMS yet, you could always look at testing in SCORM Cloud. It's a free industry standard for testing LMS content, and this article will walk you through the general upload process.
Darn. We just updated to IE11 and I was so hopeful Rise would work within our LMS. I get a blank screen when I run the course (exported as a zip and uploaded into our LMS) through our LMS, but I can view it in IE11 just using the shared link.
Just noted you also reached out here, so I'm glad it's not that you're seeing this across IE11 as a whole with Rise, as that should work! But what's the LMS you're using? Were you able to reach out to your LMS team to see if there was something specific to that set up which wouldn't allow for the playback of Rise courses - as any LMS that is SCORM, AICC compliant should be able to play the content for you.
Have you looked at testing it in another LMS such as SCORM Cloud? It's an industry standard for LMS testing, so would be a good way to confirm where the issue is occurring. Also what browser were you using to export the courses out?
Thanks for this discussion thread. We have also had issues with ie11 using Oracle OLM. Course plays successfully using Chrome. Loaded course into Scorm Cloud and plays fine using ie11. Appreciate if anyone has found a solution with their LMS as it may apply to our situation.
I'm sorry you're running into issues with IE11, Rise, and your LMS! I know that in another forum discussion one user found out that their LMS was forcing IE11 into compatibility mode which then treats IE11 as if it were IE7.
Since it already works in SCORM Cloud, you could share the results of SCORM Cloud and any information you determine about compatibility mode with your LMS team and see if they have a way around it!
Hi Ashley! Yes, thankyou. I did find the other discussion forum and the tips were very useful. Yes, our LMS is trying to open in what appears to be ie5 which is very odd. I've raised an issue with our IT team. I'm not sure if relevant, but in scorm cloud and in Workday RISE opens in a popup window. Oracle and another smaller LMS we use (e3) open in the same window. Would RISE be sending any code regarding how this may be treated differently - or are you 100% certain this is an LMS/browser issue. Thanks! Amanda
IE5? Wow. That's one I haven't heard in a bit... 😁 If it's in IE5, I could see how Rise would not be working right. Rise is supported in the browsers listed here. Keep us posted what your IT team says!
Opening the course in a new browser window or tab is a setting or option with the LMS, so each LMS could be treating it differently.
I'm having the same issue. It is not a compatibility mode issue or an LMS issue. When I launch Rise in IE11 that page displays appropriately but as soon as I select the course it launches a blank gray page. Has anyone solved this issue? It will be a big deal breaker as IE11 is the default browser for our 50,000+ users.
The weird thing is that I can launch it using the share link and that works fine in IE11.
Viewing content in IE11 is supported, but you won't be able to author content there. It sounds like that is what you're running into? Use one of the browsers below to author your Rise content:
Are you seeing a blank screen when viewing or authoring Rise content? You should be able to view a Rise course in IE11.
Is this only happening when you view the course from the LMS? I'd recommend testing it in a different LMS environment like SCORM Cloud, which is a handy and free tool for LMS testing. You could also test the "Share" link in IE11 to compare how it behaves there.
Personally, I can open Rise in IE 11, but I am not able to author once I click on the course (comes up as a blank screen). I'm also unable to launch the course from our LMS in IE 11 (comes up as a blank screen). However, I can launch a course link in IE 11 and it works. So weird!
I just ran some tests and found that the blank screen is only happening when authoring Rise content. Viewing content is fine via our LMS using IE11, so that's great.
Hi team, we are unable to open the shared Rise output link in IE11. We get a blank screen and blue wheel in URL but the program fails to load. This has been happening for a few weeks at least. Unfortunately, we still use IE11 at work on most comps as default so I need to understand if this is still supported? Link is: https://rise.articulate.com/share/IVspIwXV495hxT2RsLXm7MN65qbCR01F which is working fine in Chrome.
I am having a similar issue. I created and published a course using Rise, published AICC (as we usually do). Loaded to our LMS (SuccessFactors). It works fine in Chrome but our default browser is IE11 and when trying to launch from the LMS in IE11 it gives me this error: An error has occured. LMS did not return a valid status code. We have our IT department looking at compatibility settings but changing those does not seem to help the issue. Any other ideas on what the problem could be?

This image shows ie11 and also along the bottom the error message that I'm using an unsupported browser?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply, got it!
Ok when I share a link and view the course in IE11, all works no issues! :)
However, when I export, uinzip and try to view index in IE 11 it shows an empty page?
What is it expecting me to do? Do I need to host it before the course is available?
Thanks

Another point for a new LMS. :)

Hi Ashley: The key word to your statement is "any DECENT LMS that is SCORM....."
I see what you did there Tracy. ;)
Sounds like a good reason for that new LMS you've been hoping for! Keep us posted if you need anything else!
Inspite of uploading RISE packages on to our LMS, we are still facing the same issue. The screen is blank. Can you help us identify the problem?
Hi Vaibhav,

Hi Amanda,
I'm sorry you're running into issues with IE11, Rise, and your LMS! I know that in another forum discussion one user found out that their LMS was forcing IE11 into compatibility mode which then treats IE11 as if it were IE7.
Justin shared steps here on how to check if it's using compatibility mode. There's a Peek video to walk you through it.

Hi Elizabeth,

Hi, this is happening to us too and our LMS uses IE11.
When we launch Rise via IE11, we get a blank screen.
Will this be fixed so we can use IE11 with Rise in the future?
Thanks again
Hi there Angela,
Are you seeing a blank screen when viewing or authoring Rise content? You should be able to view a Rise course in IE11.

Let me know how it goes!

Hey Elizabeth- thanks for those details!
Authoring in Rise on Internet Explorer isn't supported so I'd expect to run into what you're describing there. However, it should be viewable in IE11 so I'm curious about what's happening in your LMS.
Have you tried uploading it to SCORM Cloud yet to test it? That would give us a great idea of whether it's file specific or LMS related.
Keep me posted!
Hi Alyssa,
I just ran some tests and found that the blank screen is only happening when authoring Rise content.
Viewing content is fine via our LMS using IE11, so that's great.
Thanks again
That's great news, Angela. Thanks so much for that update here! ☺️

Further to this, the output link will not open in Microsoft Edge either. May I please have some feedback as to how to resolve this issue. Cheers.
