Rise error in Internet Explorer 11

Dec 05, 2016

Hi,

I have been building my courses in Rise inside Chrome. I can view, edit etc... with no issues. However when testing in IE 11 I can't see any content.

I logged into IE11, logged in and can see my list of courses, but when I click to edit or review a course the screen is blank?

I also tried to view a course in ie11 and can't view? Nothing happens, no errors?

Can someone help me and give me some guidance?

Thanks

Nichola - IE11 is not one of the supported browsers for authoring. But learners can view Rise courses in IE11. To view a Rise course in IE11, you have two choices.

1) Click the SHARE link at the top of the course, and then view that URL in IE11

2) Click the EXPORT link at the top of the course and and view the output in IE11.

Hi Nichola,

Have you tried uploading it to a web server or LMS to see how it displays? Rise courses can be export for web or LMS, but offline viewing isn't currently supported. If that's a feature you'd like to see, please let us know!

If you don't have access to upload to your web server or LMS yet, you could always look at testing in SCORM Cloud. It's a free industry standard for testing LMS content, and this article will walk you through the general upload process.

Hi Tracy,

Just noted you also reached out here, so I'm glad it's not that you're seeing this across IE11 as a whole with Rise, as that should work! But what's the LMS you're using? Were you able to reach out to your LMS team to see if there was something specific to that set up which wouldn't allow for the playback of Rise courses - as any LMS that is SCORM, AICC compliant should be able to play the content for you.

Hi Amanda,

I'm sorry you're running into issues with IE11, Rise, and your LMS! I know that in another forum discussion one user found out that their LMS was forcing IE11 into compatibility mode which then treats IE11 as if it were IE7.

Justin shared steps here on how to check if it's using compatibility mode.  There's a Peek video to walk you through it.

Since it already works in SCORM Cloud, you could share the results of SCORM Cloud and any information you determine about compatibility mode with your LMS team and see if they have a way around it!

Hi Ashley!  Yes, thankyou.  I did find the other discussion forum and the tips were very useful.  Yes, our LMS is trying to open in what appears to be ie5 which is very odd.  I've raised an issue with our IT team.  I'm not sure if relevant, but in scorm cloud and in Workday RISE opens in a popup window.  Oracle and another smaller LMS we use (e3) open in the same window.  Would RISE be sending any code regarding how this may be treated differently - or are you 100% certain this is an LMS/browser issue.  Thanks!  Amanda

IE5? Wow. That's one I haven't heard in a bit... 😁  If it's in IE5, I could see how Rise would not be working right. Rise is supported in the browsers listed here. Keep us posted what your IT team says!

Opening the course in a new browser window or tab is a setting or option with the LMS, so each LMS could be treating it differently.

Hello,

I'm having the same issue.  It is not a compatibility mode issue or an LMS issue. When I launch Rise in IE11 that page displays appropriately but as soon as I select the course it launches a blank gray page.  Has anyone solved this issue?  It will be a big deal breaker as IE11 is the default browser for our 50,000+ users.

The weird thing is that I can launch it using the share link and that works fine in IE11.

Hi there Angela,

Are you seeing a blank screen when viewing or authoring Rise content? You should be able to view a Rise course in IE11.

Is this only happening when you view the course from the LMS? I'd recommend testing it in a different LMS environment like SCORM Cloud, which is a handy and free tool for LMS testing. You could also test the "Share" link in IE11 to compare how it behaves there.

Let me know how it goes!

Hey Elizabeth- thanks for those details!

Authoring in Rise on Internet Explorer isn't supported so I'd expect to run into what you're describing there. However, it should be viewable in IE11 so I'm curious about what's happening in your LMS.

Have you tried uploading it to SCORM Cloud yet to test it? That would give us a great idea of whether it's file specific or LMS related.

Keep me posted!

Hi team, we are unable to open the shared Rise output link in IE11. We get a blank screen and blue wheel in URL but the program fails to load. This has been happening for a few weeks at least. Unfortunately, we still use IE11 at work on most comps as default so I need to understand if this is still supported? Link is: https://rise.articulate.com/share/IVspIwXV495hxT2RsLXm7MN65qbCR01F which is working fine in Chrome.

I am having a similar issue. I created and published a course using Rise, published AICC (as we usually do). Loaded to our LMS (SuccessFactors). It works fine in Chrome but our default browser is IE11 and when trying to launch from the LMS in IE11 it gives me this error: An error has occured. LMS did not return a valid status code. We have our IT department looking at compatibility settings but changing those does not seem to help the issue. Any other ideas on what the problem could be?
