Rise making image pixellated

Mar 15, 2018

Hi I have a high resolution image which becomes pixellated in a certain area when I upload it to Rise (I am using it inside of a Image & text block).

Anyone have any tips on how I can prevent this? Have attached screenshots of before and after I upload.

Hi there, Nisha.  I'm sorry you're seeing that pixelation.  We're currently investigating why this happens with some image files in our full-width image blocks.

Are you able to share the original image file you're using with me for testing?  You can attach it here in the discussion, or you can send it along privately if you'd prefer.

Either way, I'll tag this discussion so I can keep you updated with new information.

Hello,

I am having similar issues with images uploaded in Rise. I switched to capturing screens in 600 DPI because regular 96 DPI images look fuzzy in the Rise course. It seems that the compression should only work when the file size needs to be smaller.  Also, even when I increase the resolution, images in the Labeled Graphic, Image & text, Sorting Activity, Flashcard stack, and Flashcard grid are fuzzy or pixelated.

I also noted, as someone else discovered here, that TIFF files (.tif) work better because that file format maintains the image resolution and higher file size than JPEG or PNG.  However, I cannot upload a .tif file into the Labeled Graphic although I can upload it in other places.

I get a message, ! Please verify the file is an image and try again.

How soon can these issues be fixed? Images are key parts of my training and need to be crisp. Thank you.

Hey Ramona.  I'm sorry those images are showing as fuzzy or pixelated.  I'd like us to have a closer look at how they're appearing in Rise.  I opened a case for you with our support team (since you're on a 360 Team, you'll get priority support!), and you should receive a confirmation email with an upload link.

Can you share some example image files that are giving you trouble?  You can also provide us with the Share URL to your Rise course so we can see what you see in the different blocks and lessons.

Thanks so much for letting us help, here!

Hi, folks!

Do you have an image that looks blurry in Rise 360? We've designed a workaround to keep your images looking crystal clear.

If you'd like an image to keep its specific file format and not undergo compression, you can opt-out of image optimization on a case-by-case basis. Add _NOPROCESS_ to the name of your image file. It'll upload and display exactly as you saved it. Keep in mind that the 5GB file size limit still applies, and you could see an increase in your output file size.

Hi Libby!

Sorry to hear you're still having trouble with this! Could you please share how you named the file itself?

Alternatively, we can test this on our end if it's okay to share the actual image file with us! You can share the image privately here and open up a case so we can look into this further.

I've had the same issue with trying to import some slide images from PPT.  Using the tiff format helps some.  I tried the _NOPROCESS_ trick and it really messed up the labeled graphic I was working on.  Once the image was changed, I couldn't delete it because the menu to remove the image fell off of my page.  I had to completely redo all the voiceover work on the labeled graphic and just delete it.  Please share any potential resolution on this as I know my team members have reached out to find out solutions as well.

Hi,

I'm experiencing the loss of image quality--particularly in labeled graphics--described by several people in this thread. I tried adding _NOPROCESS_ to the file name at both the beginning and end of the filename. I see someone asked about the correct placement within the file name, but that does not seem to have been addressed. Regardless, I did not see much of a difference in quality. I also tried using TIFF files, but again not much of a difference. When I added _NOPROCESS_ at the end of the filename of a TIFF file, I also had the same problem someone described. When I click edit, only the bottom half of the pop-up is available, so it's not possible to upload a new image. Luckily, I saved a copy of the course after reading the previous comment, so it won't be much of an effort to restore the labeled graphic. BUT I'm still left with the image quality issue. I would really appreciate some assistance. We are going to be using this course as the foundation for several different versions, so I can't proceed until this issue is resolved.

Hi Michelle,

I'm so sorry to hear you're having trouble with the quality of your images in a labeled graphics block! Would you be able to share a copy of your image files especially the TIFF files you used to test the _NOPROCESS_ solution we recommended? If you prefer to send this to us privately, you can use this link to upload your file. Our customer support engineers will work with you directly to troubleshoot the issue.

Thanks, Lea. I privately uploaded an example of png with _NOPROCESS_. I did not save the TIFF files b/c they corrupted the entire block. To anyone else who attempts this, save your block as a template first or risk losing your work. Also, I believe _NOPROCESS_ goes at the end of the file name. It was not clear to me from this thread where it s/b placed, but based on trial and error, I believe I am correct. Lea--It would be great if you or someone on your team could confirm to save time for others in the future.

Hi there, Michele. Thanks for your reply. You can put _NOPROCESS_ anywhere in the file name.

For labeled graphic blocks especially, if the image is not as wide as the small option in the editing pane, it will be scaled up to fill the block. This could mean that your image becomes blurry regardless if you use the _NOPROCESS_ tag on the file name.

I see your case with Ronaziel, and she had some follow up questions for you. Let us know if you didn't receive her reply!

Hi,

I'm not sure if anyone is still tracking this, but something weird happened to me today. All of my 2-colour images (a simple down arrow on plain background) that I had inserted a week and a half ago, just decided to go corrupt today; they all now appeared with dots throughout the images. I double checked my original; nothing there, looked good. I checked res, colours, and even grabbed a new shot of the image. Same issue. These images only appear this way in Rise 360, but they didn't look that way last weekend.

I did try the _NOPROCESS_ addition to the filename, and that worked. But can anyone tell me why this has occurred?

Cheers,

Pam
