Storyline block in Rise not mobile-friendly?

Nov 09, 2018

Hi all,

I was pumped to see the addition of the Storyline block in Rise because it allowed me to incorporate some of my more interactive elements into the streamlined Rise format. However, when I preview them in mobile, none of them work.

Has anyone else noticed this, and if so, have you figured out a solution? My company is all about "mobile-first" learning, and if the Storyline blocks aren't mobile-friendly, there not much use to me.

Thanks!

Abby

Hi Abby!

Sorry for the confusion here.

Right now, Storyline blocks don’t work in Rise Preview mode, but learners will be able to view these blocks on mobile once the course is published. Here's an article where this is explained in a little more detail.

Our team has a feature request logged for this capability and we’ll add your voice to the discussion!

Hello there, Kathy.

Are your Storyline blocks not showing when you preview your course? When clicking the responsive preview icons in Rise 360, Storyline blocks don't display for the mobile phone views.

If your Storyline block isn't launching on an actual mobile phone, however, please let us know!

Hi Brian! Are you having trouble viewing the Storyline block when you preview your Rise course, or are you seeing this issue when viewing the course on a mobile device?

Storyline blocks won’t work when you click the smartphone preview icons in Rise 360, but they’ll work as expected in published output on mobile phones. If your Storyline block isn't playing properly when you're viewing the published course on a mobile phone, please submit a support case here, and our customer support engineers will help troubleshoot this issue for you.

It would be more efficient if the SL block interaction was available when previewing your Rise course for mobile/tablet. This just seems inefficient from a developer perspective to publish your course to preview an interaction..... hopefully in the future this will be updated so there isn't an unnecessary step of having to publish/export your Rise course to preview SL interactions....

My experience of using the SL blocks now is that they work in mobile but they way they display is odd and I would not call it 'mobile-friendly' because of how the SL blocks open in an overlay and cover up text. There is an 'X' to close the overlay but in landscape mode this disappears and the learner is then stuck in the interaction. Hopefully this can be improved in the future? Even if it's further isolation of the SL block overlay and ghosting out the content below and making the 'X' more prominent.

I have the exact same problem.  The storyline block works but it needs the user to close the window it plays in before being able to continue the course!  Not mobile/user friendly!  Has there been any resolution to this issue?  Otherwise I will need to remove this as it's not obvious that they need to close the overlay window.  Such a pain as it works fine in all other devices.

Hi Monica! If a learner is using a mobile phone to view a Storyline Block, that Storyline content will open in an overlay to maximize the size of the Storyline slide size. This makes it easier for the learner to view the slide content. Learners will need to tap the X in the upper corner of the overlay to return to the Rise course.

Hi Paul! Sorry to hear that there is no sound when viewing your Storyline block on a mobile device.

Does it happen to a specific mobile device or do all the mobile devices you've tried behave the same? Are you using a supported mobile browser?

Feel free to submit a support case here, so that you can share your Rise course and one of our technical support engineers will help troubleshoot the issue!
