I have created a course in Rise with some links to external websites. When you click on the link within the editing window the link website opens in a new target window. However, when you publish the course the link opens in the same window forcing the learner to use the back button every time they want to return to the course. Is there a way round this so all links open in new target windows?
URLs that you hyperlink in your Rise course will always open in a new browser tab. Will that work for your learners, or you're hoping to have it launch in a brand new browser window?
Hi Ashley, i've put links to separate lessons on buttons - they clearly don't open in a new tab in chrome. is this a bug or should i file a feature request?
Are you using a button to link to another lesson in the same Rise course? If so, that lesson will open in the same browser tab. Can you tell us more about why you would want the lesson to open in a new tab? What situation would you use that feature in?
Hi Alyssa, both - the customer and ourselves want the trainee to be able to return to the *same location* in the original page, after clicking to visit another page.
Right now, if you click a link on a page, which opens in the same tab and you then hit "back", you shoot back to the top of the previous page, instead of your original location on the page, where you clicked that link.
The simplest solution seems to me to open the linked page in a new tab, so that when you close that new tab, you drop back to the original tab, which is still on the original location on the page. This applies to both external websites or internal links within Rise courses.
This is a standard functionality of a lot of modern websites, and people simply seem to expect it.
I wouldn't hold much hope. That would need them to implement anchor tags, wouldn't be hard to do in the same menu but it would take a decent amount of time when you throw whatever testing procedure they follow as it be a bit more difficult with a responsive editor like rise is. I'm just waiting for the ability to choose what tab my link opens to (that was in storyline 8 years ago)..
Currently, when you return to a previous Rise 360 lesson, you'll be taken back to the top of that lesson. However, it sounds like you'd prefer to be taken to the last-viewed block.
I'm happy to bring this up with our team again, and we'll keep an eye out for other requests for a similar need.
hello, I have a related question. When a learner click on an external link, it opens in a new window which is great, but when they close this window and go back to the window they were on, it actually makes them start from the beginning of the module instead of where they left off when they clicked on think link, It's time consuming and annoying when they have to scroll through the module to get to where they were at.
The experience I have is that in IE/Edge browser, the URLs will open in a new window but in Chrome browser, they will open in the same window. May I know how to manage this inconsistency? Thank you.
Hello, Khoon. Thanks for sharing your experience. Individual web browsers control how they handle opening hyperlinks. Some browsers will open links in a new tab, while others will open links in a completely new window.

Hi Dominique! Thanks for checking in on this request! We don't have any new information yet, but we'll update this thread if we ever make changes to this experience.
I am having this same issue with embedding links in Articulate Rise course using the button feature. It opens the link just fine, but you cannot easily get back to the original course. It looks like the course closes. It is very confusing to the user. Our LMS is Workday Learning and our administrators do not know how to resolve this. Any updates on this or help would be appreciated.
I also need to be able to choose whether the link opens in a new window or same window...
Articulate Team - It looks like the feature request first went in 5 years ago so are there any updates on this functionality? This is the first time I've come across not being able to do this in software. I'd have thought it'd have been pretty standard functionality...
We need to use hotspot images to link to different bits of the Rise module - so the suggest of using buttons doesn't work for us. Feeling somewhat frustrated right now...

what is the resolution for making links open in a separate window?

Thanks.
I realized this question was asked above too.
No problem, Sally! Alyssa has this feature request documented. We'll let you you know if we make any changes to this experience.
Bump. This is very much needed for us.
Either add targets or allow us to edit the HTML.
Is there any updates?
Hi there! I don't have any updates at this time, but you're in the right place to receive new information as it's available!

Hi - is there any update on this. New to Rise 360 and think it's great, but the ability to open links in the same window would be really useful for us

Hello has there been any update regarding this ?

I also would *really* like to have the ability to choose whether links open in a new window or tab, or in the same window.
It would be super-helpful if Rise would give you the ability to select whether a link would open in a new window, or the existing one.
