We have found that using the same resources in the creation of an eLearning course in Storyline and in Rise, when we publish the file in SCORM it´much bigger in Rise than Storyline, anybody know why?
Although you may have linked the same resources in your Rise course as your Storyline course, they are two different tools with drastically different settings and publishing engines, so I wouldn't expect them to be the same size upon export. If you are seeing a major difference in size and it's impacting your course, our team would be happy to take a look at both and figure out if there is something happening to cause such an increase. Can you share a copy of the .story file and the Rise export with our Support team here?
I've noticed a similar thing happening when publishing in Rise. Usually storyline compresses video and images etc. However, in Rise it actually increases the file sizes of videos, sometimes tripling the file size. For customers who have a SCORM file size limits, I have had to unpack the scorm, compress the videos, reinsert and repackage the SCORM. More of an issue with courses that use a lot of video content.

Could someone provide a few tips for reducing the file size with Rise? I am building a course, and really enjoying Rise, but the SCORM file size much bigger than I expected.
One of my SMEs re-recorded the original videos I did and they were massive! I found some of my SCORMs were too big to upload into Moodle (anything over about 50MB it would not take). Some of the things I did to solve this were:
broke my topic into smaller chunks (had 4 rises for the one topic)
hosted the videos on YouTube as unlisted and then embedded the clip into the rise (instead of uploading the video into rise)
hosted the attachment files in my Moodle, copied the URL, linked to the URL in the rise and then exported to SCORM
It seemed to be the videos and embedded attachments that made it huge (understandably) so this worked for me.
Something I did as a work around was unpack the scorm file, in the content folder I compressed the video files, replacing the videos with the compressed versions with the same file name (I use handbrake to compress, great at reducing size without degrading quality. I then re-zipped the file and it significantly reduced the overall scorm file size.
Would you mind sending us a copy of one of your original video files that still seems large after publish from Rise? We're always interested in areas where we can get better!
I just went through the process of compression all my videos and reduced their file size, by 75%. My Rise file after the export is still WAY too big. I am submitting a case now.
Is there an update on this? I just published a course with 88mb worth of pre-handbrake'd videos in it. The published SCORM file "compressed" them to 533mb.
Lee was working with my colleague Miker in a support case and we were looking to get copies of the video files he was using. I'll open up a case for you as well - and our team can reach out to get some samples to help us further investigate it!
I made a copy of my large Rise course and exported it for testing purposes. I then ran all my videos through Adobe Media Encoder to reduce the file size of the videos by about 50%. I uploaded all those videos and exported the course. The file size was the same!
It turns out, Rise does an excellent job of reducing file sizes of videos with its own compression. I am very impressed with this feature.
Solution:
I signed up for Sprout video and embedded all my videos into Rise from Sprout. This provided wonderful analytics from Sprout and brought my files size from 295 MB to 29MB. The course performance is much better.
It has been rolled out to Rise - can you try exported your course another time?
If you were in an active session of Rise that may explain a possible delay in that enhancement's availability. Try logging out of Rise, closing the browser, and logging back in to make sure it's got a fresh start!

Hi, I've just created a Rise course from a Storyline 360 course. The zip file for the Storyline course is 8MB but the zip for the Rise course is 21MB. I haven't compressed the videos before adding to Rise because I didn't think I had to. Any suggestions?

Hi, had similar issue today, where 2 optimised 15MB videos ballooned to 22MB each on export.
Is this still an open issue?

Rise automatically optimizes media for faster download with the goal of maintaining the best quality.
However, there isn’t a way to manually compress media files in Rise. You can check out our best practices for media files in Rise right here.
