I have a section with two lessons. One lesson is populated; the second one is not and the second one still has the placeholder, Add a Lesson Title here. When I hover over the lesson I never see a Delete option.
Hi there, Peggy. That second lesson placeholder probably looks like this:
There isn't actually a lesson created there until you add a title and have the opportunity to add content. When you preview your course, the last lesson that you titled should be the last lesson you see.
You shouldn't have to do a thing! Tell me if you're seeing something else, and we'll dig deeper.
I'm sorry you find it misleading to see the empty lesson placeholder. The intent is to make it easy for you to add a new lesson when you need to. I will pass along your feedback to our team!
I'm new to rise and having the same issue. I accidentally created 6 lesson titles instead of section headings and now it looks so messy! I would love to have a delete option.
You can delete the lessons you created accidentally. Simply click on the 3 dots next to the lesson title and select Delete from the drop-down menu (see screenshot).
Hi Allison, I appreciate this thread since I've spent too much time attempting to delete the extra populated lessons at the end of each section. While testing the course with my trainer via my monitor, she asked me to make sure to delete the "extra lessons" at the end of each section. I had no idea they were placeholders - nay, suggestions, and spent time typing titles then deleting. It's quite misleading, especially for someone new to Rise building a 28 lesson template course. A simple drop-down option to "Add Lesson" would be much more intuitive and less visually confusing. Thanks!
I totally agree with Angela. This has been driving me crazy for an hour now. I have 3 extra lessons and the ... dots don't offer a way to delete them so they appear to be there forever. It's kind of frustrating to not be able to clean it up. Thanks..pf
I just struggled with this as well, and you have to hover over the 3 dots until a pointing finger appears (not just the "hand" icon). Then you will see your options.
I was able to delete the body but not the header. It still shows up like there was a blank lesson when I publish in Review or Preview. I need to get this out now. Thanks.
A friend pointed me to the faint ellipsis next to the heading. If you are very patient and hover over the dots just so, the hand morphs into a pointing finger and a drop down menu appears with the option to delete.
This is Angela Kolter from up the thread (logged in as a colleague). I'm back! New company, new course, same problem. I'm editing an existing module and the lesson WILL NOT delete using the mentioned tip. If I type in a fake title and hit 'Enter' as advised, it simply populates a NEW blank lesson below the one I'm trying to delete. Help! It's been 2.5 years and I'm BACK.
It sounds like your colleague's account is a Course Collaborator. If you don't see the delete option after clicking the 3 dots, click Edit Content to take control. Then press the back button and click the 3 dots again:
If it still looks like this:
Please try adding content in the lesson itself by hitting Edit content, go back and then refresh. Please see the following article on collaboration for more details
I am a new user and this is the second time in the space of two weeks I am posting about major gaps/flaws in the UI. Lessons automatically added as 'Add a lesson title' are annoying and make the course plan look messy. I don't understand the logic behind getting a user to type something in order to be able to delete stuff they did not want to add in the first place. What worries me the most, though, is that the threads I have seen so far are all years old, and still no solutions in sight.
Thanks, Karl. Clicking on the three dots does not produce a drop-down or expanded menu and they remain greyed out. (Screenshot not available) I am the only user on this account, so I wouldn't expect an issue with collaborators. What else might you recommend?

I had that same question. It's misleading to see empty lesson placeholder if you have no intention of adding content to that lesson.

Hi Paula,
If you type something and hit enter, you should see the trash can appear.
Let me know if that works for you!
It did help. Thanks so much Allison!
I just struggled with this as well, and you have to hover over the 3 dots until a pointing finger appears (not just the "hand" icon). Then you will see your options.
So you need to enter something in order to delete it, lol. Come on now. Make it work like most people would expect it to....thanks.

Hi Janet,
Not sure what you mean by "body" and "header" as these are not Rise terms.
Within a Rise course, at the highest level you create either Sections (which are just labels with no content) Lessons, and Quizzes.
If you can upload a screenshot and highlight the problem that would help a lot.
Hi Karl,
I'm new to Rise so sorry I was unclear.
Body = Lesson content
Header = Heading
A friend pointed me to the faint ellipsis next to the heading. If you are very patient and hover over the dots just so, the hand morphs into a pointing finger and a drop down menu appears with the option to delete.
Thanks for responding.

It's Angela again, logged in as a colleague, having same problem again. Extra lesson won't delete. Looks gross.

Hi there,
The menu dots (to the right of EDIT CONTENT) are greyed out so clicking doesn't trigger a drop down. Help? (:
HI Brian,
While the three dots are "greyed out", they are clickable.
Thanks, Karl. Clicking on the three dots does not produce a drop-down or expanded menu and they remain greyed out. (Screenshot not available) I am the only user on this account, so I wouldn't expect an issue with collaborators. What else might you recommend?
HI Brian,
Does the cursor change to the pointing hand when you hover over the three dots as shown in the second image below?
When I hover over the three dots:
Ok -- your direction helped me noodle patiently.
Issue resolved. 🙌🏼
