Using Rise as a shell

Hi everyone,

My organization is upgrading to 360 in January. I downloaded the trial version so we can hit the ground running once we upgrade.

 I'm looking ahead to a project where I'll have a lot of micro learnings. Rise will work perfectly for some of these lessons, but I'll also want to build some of them in Storyline. My question is, has anyone used Rise as a shell to host more Rise courses? I envision each lesson being a link to either a new Rise course or a Storyline build.

Any suggestions or potential pitfalls you could see from doing this?

Hi Mike!

Great question- thanks for posting it here in the community! One question that might have an impact on the response here is: are you uploading these Rise courses to an LMS or simply to the web? 

If you're simply uploading for the web, what you've asked above (linking to other Rise or Storyline courses from within a Rise course) can be easily done.

Let's say you create a Rise course, let's call it "Course A". You export Course A for Web and upload it to a server, where it generates a URL link for Course A. Now let's say you have another Rise course called "Course Shell". In that course shell, you could create a lesson, and in that lesson, you could have a Button Stack that links to Course A, and any other courses/URLs you want. This should work fine for the web. Now if you need to track in an LMS this solution may not be the way to go. 

In terms of Storyline, it could work very much the same way. If you create a course in Storyline, publish it for Web, then upload that to a web server, it generates a URL link you can use to acces that Storyline course. Then you could have a Button Stack in a Rise Block Lesson that links to a Storyline course. OR, alternatively to linking to Storyline content, you could use a Storyline Block in a Rise lesson to show Storyline content. However, Storyline content displayed in a block is not SCORM-compatible, so again, it will depend on if you need to track in an LMS or not.
