Weblinks in Rise- opening over course

Jun 05, 2017

In testing our first Rise course in our LMS, we noticed that any weblinks we added in the course open over the course file so learners lose their spot in the course when they click on any link.

There is no back button on the linked page so when they close that window, it takes them back to the LMS.

Any ideas? We are using a SCORM 1.2 file in Relias Learning Management System.

note: I realize you can right click on the link and select "open in new window" but our learners will not know to do that (and won't read directions to do that).

Hi Sabrina,

I gave this a quick test with a Rise course here that I uploaded to SCORM Cloud (a free testing site).

I tested that in Firefox and Chrome on my desktop and Safari on my iPhone 6S.  Each of the links in the course opened a new tab or window--they did not open in place of the Rise course. Once I closed the new tab or window, I returned to the main Rise course page.

Can you give that a try and let me know how that behaves for you?

Thanks for taking the time to do this Ashley. You are right, in this example- the web links opened in a new tab. I'm not sure why this doesn't work this way with our course. At first, I thought it might be our LMS settings but then I think back to other Storyline courses that have links and those all open in a new tab (same LMS). Is there a master setting for weblinks in Rise that we are not seeing?

Hi Sabrina,

No master setting to control how links open from Rise. Does it happen only in the LMS or using the "Share" link from Rise? Here's how to send along the "Share link" and I'd be happy to test it.

My first thought was that it's a browser setting to open links in the same tab vs. a new tab/window - but if my course worked well for you, that options out. Have you tested current Storyline courses to confirm that nothing changed in the LMS?

You could also test at SCORM Cloud (directions here on how to upload here).

Let me know if you need anything else!
