Sizes of Images Created in PowerPoint
Oct 21, 2011
I'm sure I've seen a post or a blog entry from Tom about this subject, but I can't find it now when I need it, so I'm wondering if anyone can answer my question or point me in the right direction.
I have two PowerPoint files. The first one is where I'm creating images and I'm designing the images to be a certain size. I then save them out as a png. However, when I insert these pngs into my 2nd PowerPoint (the actual lesson) the image sizes are nothing like the size that I created them in the first PowerPoint file.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? Some of the images I'm creating need to be size specific and the same size as other images.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks, Kristi

no thats normal, the image is actually the right size but has imparted at a reduced size, you can either right click the dimensions of the original and set the imported to that size or I just do paste special (instead of saving out as an image) as png and normally it stays the same size
Kristi- Are you familiar with Paste Special? It's a great shortcut.
Create your image
Ctrl X to cut it
Paste button > Paste Special > PNG > OK
It might sound like a lot, but it's faster than saving it out and brining it back in. You're literally just cutting/pasting the image you created only it pastes it in as a PNG for you
Another option that might be relevenat is.. different resolutions of the original images.
So when saved they are saved with their own resolution, then when opened they will each open in a different size.
Compressing your images so all have the same resolution might help.
Thanks, Phil & Natalia...I am familiar with paste special, but hadn't been using it in this fashion, though it sounds like that might be a good option to start using more!
Thanks also, Efrat...I don't seem to have an option to choose the resolution when I right click an image (in PowerPoint) and choose "save as picture..." I can save in different formats (png, jpeg, etc.) but I don't seen anything about saving in different resolution sizes. Am I missing something?
I have had the same problem. Althought, I hadn't considered the "Paste Special" workaround. I do a couple of different things as a workaround, depending on the trainign I am building.
For training that contains any on screen animations:
Once I have my powerpoint deck saved with all my images, I open it again and save it with a different name. I insert the pictures right on top of the original image on the slide. Once I get the size and position just right, I use the selection pane to delete the one I don't want.
For training that contains no on screen animations:
1. click on the slide background
2. <cntrl> + <a> to select everything on the slide. do this for each slide.
3. Right click, save as picture.
4. in a new deck, insert your picture
5. align with top left corner of slide
6. Hold <shift> and drag bottom right corner of image to the bottom right corner of slide.
The great thing about doing it this way is that the image will automatically "snap" to the edge of the ppt stage, making the resizing very fast. And because you are resizing the whole slide in the same way, for every slide, everything should line up perfectly.
I usually have 2 versions of every file: 1 editable and 1 that is nothing but JPEGs and PNGs.
