Slide Properties File Name is from a previous version

Dec 03, 2012

Hi Guys

I have run into a problem that I need some help to solve. I am creating an e-learning programme that initially had 4 modules, but needed to expand to 5 in version 2. This meant renaming all the presentations because the new module became module 1.

The problem that I am having with my new 5th module (which used to be called module 4) is that the automatically generated title in Slide Properties is still "module 4." I have tried various strategies to attempt to get this to update - file saving the presentation to a new name for example - but I cannot get the slide properties title to be anything other than module 4. (I also note - and this may be an unrelated issue - that when I uploaded the presentation to Articulate online, the new links that I have added as attachments in my PowerPoint presentation did not update and remain the links I had when the module was named "module 4". I am hoping there is a simple fix for this!

Many thanks

Good morning Lynden,

When you go to view the updated version, are you testing in the browser where you viewed the previous version? If so, you might want to try clearing your browser's cache, first.

If you're not seeing the updates while previewing, make sure that you're updating local content. Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate). Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names. Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Have a look at that information and let me know if it helps.

Thanks!

Hi Christine

Thanks for your reply. I think I have covered those bases already. The problem is in the Title area of Slide Properties in the underlying PowerPoint presentation - quoting from the Support Site:

To manage Slide Properties for your course:

  1. Select Articulate --> Slide Properties to launch the Slide Properties dialog.
  2. The presentation or e-learning course Title appears in the upper left-hand corner of the Slide Properties dialog; this title is generated from your file name. The total number of slides and the Total Duration of your presentation or e-learning course are displayed in the center of the Slide Properties dialog; these details are automatically calculated by Presenter ’09. The number in the first column of the Slide Properties dialog corresponds to the slide number in PowerPoint.

The Title should be generated from the File name, but it is still using the previous file name. I assume therefore that a link between the File name and Studio 9 has 'broken', though the number of slides and duration seems to be correct.

I believe  I need to re-establish the link between the File name and Studio 09 (unless someone more learned tells me differently!) - any ideas on how to fix this?

Many thanks!

Hi Lynden,

Thanks very much for getting back to me. Sorry to hear you're still working with this, it does sound strange. Would you mind submitting a support case with us, so we can take a closer look? If you can, please include a Presenter Package. Also, if you do open a case, please share your case number with me.

Thanks again, Lynden!

I'm not sure if I'm understanding the issue, as I can't tell if you're editing the name of the Powerpoint or the publish title, but have you tried editing the course name under the Publish Title in the Publish menu, then running a publish?  If the publish title is edited to be something different than the ppt name, that can be something that clings, much like manually editing slide titles in the Slide Properties menu.
