Story size

I was experimenting with the story size to try and get a better size for my students screens. When I adjusted this the change crashed (I tried 1024 in a 4X3 setup) I tried a few others with the same result. What are the settings this can be adjusted to? Also is there any way to optimise the screen size by reading their native resolution and the presentation sizing itself accordingly?

Hi Alan. Welcome to the community!
4:3 ratio is the default in Storyline, which is 720 X 540. However, if you'd like to see what other community members have worked with, take a look at this very informative thread.
My main concern with your post is that you mention a "crash" when you adjusted the story size. Is the actual program crashing? If so, what happens with the crash; are there any error messages or does the software just close?
Thanks!
Thanks for the link to the thread, Christine. I just finished my first Storyline project and found that the story size felt too small both during development and when you play it.
Hi Christine
Thanks for the intervention... I am trying to produce my first real articulate project. I made a simple one previously. The customer complains the screen is not large enough on an HP 21 inch monitor runnong at 1024 X 768, so I deleted the menu sidebar - still not happy.
When I changed the resolution the error message said something went wrong and articulate may have to close. It didn't close but when I went back to my course the pictures and text labels had been blown up in such a huge size while the canvas remained in its original size.
All I have done so far is set out the skeleton of the storyboard and am trying a few graphics in there so no major loss so far.
My background is using Flash and the FS (Full Screen) command.
Hi Alan,
Ahh, I see. That makes more sense, thank you for the additional information
Since it seems that it's really a matter of preference for your client, maybe you could have the course scale a little more. That way, if your client adjusts the size of the course by maximizing the window, it'll look larger for him.
I put together a quick example for you here. If you maximize the browser window, the course will scale to the user's browser size. This may save you some trouble with manually editing the course size. To do this, open up the "Player" settings in the "Publish" section of the menu, along the top. Click on the cogwheel labeled "Other", under the "Custom" section. Here, you can choose the option "Scale player to fill browser window" for the "Player size" settings.
Let me know if this works for you!

Thanks Christine an Ideal answer for me, when I get more up to speed with this I hope I can return the favour!
Hi Christine,
Can you share the story size for the example in this thread?
Thanks,
Cheng
Hi Cheng,
I have to be honest, I posted that example quite a while ago. I'm afraid I no longer have the project files for it, so I wouldn't be able to share the exact dimensions of the slide I used.
Were you trying to create something similar?
Thanks!
I am trying to maximize the story size as large as possible to fill the browser window without the scroll bar needed to move the window up and down, just like the way your example shows.
I just dont know how to setup.
Help is really needed
Cheng
Hi Cheng,
Have you already reviewed the tutorial here on how to resize the browser screen?
You'll have the following options to choose from:
You'll also want to adjust the player size to
There is a similar discussion in this thread with a published example by Justin, and you'll see that he was able to show Chrisanna's course in the entire browser window, and her course size is set to 720 x 540.
Ashley,
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing with me. This is exactly what I was looking for. I've been stuck for hours!!!!
You just made my day!
Thanks!
Cheng
Happy to hear it Cheng, and please let us know if you need anything else!
