Storyline and iPad3.

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for the screenshots. However, it's a little difficult to see the content, because the images are fairly small.

I'm afraid I don't have an iPad 3 yet, for testing. I'm currently using an iPad 2. However, if you'd like to post your .story file here, maybe we can take a look and see what's happening. That, or maybe someone with an iPad 3 can take a look.

Sorry for my delay but much work to do.

In attach my .story files (project and output file).

There is the set up for the export, i want to remember that we upload the .zip in Docebo LMS.

I hope someone can help me because i don't know what is wrong.

For more infromation: in our work we have 2 kind of storyline projects:

- all is built with storyline, images and sound (mp3)

- we edit a video clips and put them in a storyline slide

With videos we can play audio and video correctly (not fast to load but it works), while on the first kind of project we can't hear the sound (maybe mp3 on ipad3 is not right?).f

I use Docebo and customize it at the code level.

First: Storyline is supposed to sense your viewport for the iPad. I have tested this and it works.

Second: Docebo uses shadowbox to display the content and it always works, however, the Docebo Template you are using is most likely not resizing for the viewport of the iPad when you switch your view to portrait versus landscape.

I think your template is the default Docebo one. Docebo has not created a mobile player for 4.0.4 and below. You will need to create a Docebo template with a mobile player that also can have shadowbox. The player needs to comply with the viewport settings of the mobile player.

If you are patient, I already have this on my to-do-list for Docebo 4.X (4.0.2 to 4.0.5) and will share that template in about 1 month.

Meanwhile, I recommend you let the user know the course is built for mobile devices in landscape mode only.

One final note about the audio issue: Modile devices are not able to stream audio and video seperately because they are limited to having 1 multimedia port oopen at a time. This is by design.

I published the content you posted, here. I also tested this on my iPad 2, published for the Articulate Mobile Player, to see if I had the same issue with sounds not playing. Everything sounds great to me for the first few slides. Is there a particular slide that has no sound for you?

I'm not sure if it's with the LMS, or if it's different for the iPad 3. Try the link I provided above and see if you experience the same problem, or if it plays as expected. If it plays well and you can hear the sound, it may be with the server. If you cannot hear the sound, it may be something with the iPad 3. Maybe we can get someone with an iPad3 to do some testing for you.

In my reply to can log into my Docebo LMS and run 2 sample courses, one with my solution applied to a Captivate course, and the other without it applied yet to a Storyline course.

I work for an Italian based company that also uses Docebo (V4.0.5) and have the same issues with it displaying incorrectly on various devices. 

Alberto, thanks for making me aware of the Docebo Open Source community.

Dennis thank you for willingness to share that Docebo template and look forward to it.

One last thing, considering that Storyline publishes audio and video separately which limits the amount of devices it can play on (something I hope changes in the future), does anybody out there have any idea for how to efficiently render a each slide into one video so audio and other various effects are encoded?  We are using storyline like Adobe After Effects to create step by step video procedures and we have very little interactivity with our slides.  I have tried actually using Articulate to "Record Screen" of another story in preview mode but the resolution is not that great and the audio doesn't come through.   I also tried the program "Snagit" but again the quality was low.

I am currently using Docebo 4.0.4 because I cannot get the file upload to work on 4.0.5 (it's that MIME TYPE issue that I need my host to help with (but cannot get them to help). If you have any information that can help me with that issue, I'll be glad to speed up work on this template.

Did you go to my elearning site to see the Captivate player as mentioned above?

To be very clear...

Mobile devices limit the multimedia channels to only one-at-a-time.

Storyline can play multiple channels at once.

I only use Camtasia Studio to create videos with multiple media channels. Using Camtasia studio also allows me to create interactions within the video.

As far as Camtasia goes, I remember looking into that many years ago and it just wasn't exactly what we were looking for, a lot overkill for what we needed.  Articulate Storyline hit it on the head.  Maybe it's time for a second look at Camtasia to see how it has evolved.
