Storyline Quiz Reporting by Answers

Dec 16, 2013

Hello! Is it possible to have Storyline send quiz results to an LMS (or SharePoint in my case) to include individual answers? We do need to know what each participant selected for their answers so that we can further refine their training regimen. Is this possible?

We are currently using a JavaScript "hook" to funnel Storylines built-in reporting variables to pass results to our custom SharePoint page. This works, except we only get Pass/Fail and total scores.

Hi David,

The user's response is included in the data that Storyline sends to an LMS as detailed here, but depending on the LMS it may not be something accessible via a report.  If SharePoint can't display individual results, have you thought about having the user print their results from the Results slide and requiring them to email it to you (or whoever needs to review them)?

Thanks Ashley. Yes I have thought about the Print Results function, which definitely does print results by question. This is weird because Storyline obviously has this capability built into it - via the Print button! Is there not a way then that I can have Storyline do the same thing by maybe passing variables via a JavaScript wrapper to SharePoint?

Hi David,

Are you using a custom built LMS or some custom coding to capture Storyline results to submit to a database? Storyline is designed primarily as an elearning development tool to be used in conjunction with Articulate Online or your own Learning Management System (LMS).

For the best results and most accurate reporting, we recommend using Articulate Online:

You can sign up for a 30-day free trial of Articulate Online here:

Any LMS that is compliant with SCORM, AICC, or Tin Can API will also provide accurate tracking capabilities. Here are some open-source LMS options that may meet your tracking needs:

*  Dokeos:  http://campus.dokeos.com/

*  eFront:  http://www.efrontlearning.net/open-source

*  Moodle:  http://moodle.org/

Tracking results in a text file or database is not supported. If you'd like to track your Storyline content without an LMS, we recommend consulting our Community Forums to see how others may have handled similar situations:

If you're looking to learn more about what information Storyline gathers, you may want to use the LMS Debug mode described here.

Hi,

I created a competition for my esl students and published it for a CD. I created all my questions using free forms to control how much would each answer of my students would be marked. Unfortunatelly, whenever I try out the competitions, everything is fine except the printed results. It seems storyline 3 is showing the original results and not the results of the freeform questions I've marked using variables. How can I fix that? How do I control the printed results and format the form printed using my own style and my own data?

Desperate! Help me please.

Bal
