Storyline through iframe on iPad

Mar 04, 2013

Hi,

I'm trying to run Storyline in the browzer (ie HTML5) in an iframe.

I have follow this post: http://www.articulate.com/support/kb_article.php?product=st1&id=4lway00ih5tm

From this I have used: iframe src="http://MyServer.com/MyCourse/story.html" width="980" height="658"></iframe

However content does not load for iPad.

I've tried removing "story.html" and changing it to "story_html5.html" and it still doesn't work. Please help me!

Cheers,

Duncan

Good Morning Peter, and welcome to Heroes!

I've tested the code you used above, and I'm not having any trouble on my iPad.  Here are some links for you to test:

Again, all of these worked for me.  I'm curious to know what you see on your device.

Hi Justin,

Thanks for your reply. I have tried the links you put above on both iPad and Android and they work for me. However when I try myself the file does not load.

I've made the following test page: http://articulatetest.blogspot.com/2013/03/blog-post.html

The code used is:

"iframe src="http://satsatsat.articulate-online.com/3866642508" width="980" height="658"> at the end.

This doesn't work on either my Android or iPad, it just continuously has the loading wheel. See screen shots below.

When I load http://satsatsat.articulate-online.com/3866642508 directly on the Nexus 7 or iPad it works, but not through iframe.

Can I please see the code you used to load the files you had?

Cheers,

Duncan

Hello again, Peter.

I can reproduce this behavior.  It appears that HTML5 content hosted in Articulate Online will not run in an iFrame on Mobile Safari.

I will be escalating this behavior to the Articulate Quality Assurance Team to see if they can tell me why this is happening.  In the interim, it appears that if you need to place your content in an iFrame and view it in Mobile Safari, it will need to be hosted somewhere other than Articulate Online.

Have a great day!

Good Morning, Peter.

Are you using an HTML5-compatible Desktop browser to test this?

Using Google Chrome 25, I don't seem to be able to reproduce the perpetually-spinning preloader in iFramed HTML5 content.

Your content seems to have been removed, but here is my content in AO, here is that same content wrapped in an iFrame, and here is a Screencast demonstrating the results in Desktop Google Chrome:

In addition, here is a test of iFramed HTML5 content outside of Articulate Online.  I can't make this fail in Google Chrome either.

You can see the source code of my iFramed page by right-clicking anywhere on the page and clicking View page source.

Are you seeing different behavior than this in an HTML5-compatible desktop browser?  If so, would you mind sharing a Screencast of the behavior?  Thanks!

Justin,

Not sure if you figured this out or if someone has given you the answer yet. I had the same problem in January and had to put in a help ticket. What seemed to be the problem is a trust issue with the server (or servers), especially if you are seeing a problem with all devices. I tried this theory by moving the published folder to the web server and it began working. Today and tomorrow we are doing a full test by moving our entire media collection to the same server as our web, hopefully all will go well.

Just stumbled upon your issue looking for another issue and thought I would put in my two cents.

Hi, All!

I wanted to revisit this thread and briefly note that the behavior noted above whereby "HTML5 content hosted in Articulate Online will not run in an iFrame on Mobile Safari" is no longer reproducible when publishing via Storyline Update 3.

If you haven't installed Update 3 already, please feel free to do so and let us know if you have any trouble.  Thanks, and have a great day!

Hi Thomas,

As Justin previously mentioned there was a fix included in update 3, that was specific to hosting content in Articulate Online and how it would display in an iFrame on mobile safari. Is that where you're viewing your content? We're aware of some issues in other LMSs that force content into an iFrame being cut or not scaling while viewing in Mobile Safari. This has been reported to our QA team, and I don't have an update to share yet, but in the meantime I've heard from a few other community members who were able to connect with their LMS and determine how to not display the content in an iFrame.
