Suspend_Data = Undefined & Exit Now button not working

Jun 30, 2012

Hi Folks!

I have a user that is taking our courses (designed in Articulate Presenter '09) and a couple of strange things are happening for this user:

1.  The 'Exit Now' button does not work; and,

2.  And courses are not being marked complete after the minimum number of slides are viewed.

I pulled the suspend_data file and noticed is was not right, showing an undefined message.

   522103  ||undefined

The user is taking the course with IE9 and has the latest version of Adobe Flash Player installed.

Any ideas what might be causing these strange problems?  We have thousands of other users that are taking the course without any problems.  I've only seen this 'undefined' message for the suspend_data file one other time in several years.

Your thoughts, suggestions, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steven

PS - I asked the user to download Firefox and try taking the course in that browser to see if it fixed the problem.  I'm waiting to hear back from her to see if it helped.

Hi Adam,

I never found a solution to the 'undefined' suspend_data issue.  It's only happened with three of our users over the last several years, so it hasn't been epidemic by any means.  But it is a hassle when it does happen.  I'm not sure what's causing it exactly, but I did notice that all of the users who were affected were using IE9.  Seems like IE9 has lots of issues that is causes.  I wonder if this is one of them.

Sorry I couldn't be more help!

Are you having any problems if you test the course with a different browser like Firefox or a different version of IE?  I've run into issues with IE9 and Moodle as described in the link below.  I was able to address the problem by pasting the described code in the header of the LMS.  Hope this helps.

Has anyone seen this happening in IE10 and/or fixed it?

I have seen this happen in many different courses now and it's quite a mystery to me. Initially I was able to resolve this by running the Articulate IE10 patcher, or so I thought, but now I am seeing it again on a different course after patching. There are no script errors in the browser, it happens on IE10, and the exit button does not work. After the first launch the suspend_data has only a | in it and then it gets set to |undefined.

The IE debugger shows that we are in IE10 mode.

Thanks!

Hi Aaron and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

Sounds like you are going through the troubleshooting that we advise.

Another thing that you could try is to run in compatibility mode. This is the article that we normally share, but another user found this additional article helpful as well.

If you continue to have difficulty, I would advise submitting a case so that our support team can assist you.
