Trying to create simple Menu for multiple modules
Mar 08, 2012
Friends,
I am hoping I can get some help here. My boss needs to do a presentation where he wants to show several modules of our recent work. He was hoping I could put them all on one CD, and create some type of menu which would allow him to open each module separately from the menu. I looked at Dave Moxon's tutorial about using web objects and such, but after struggling for over an hour and a half I gave up! Too complicated for me. besides, I would like to be able to open each one in a separate browser. Someone else on an earlier post mentioned creating a simple html page with links that could autorun, but I do not know how to create such an html page from scratch. Could anyone help me out of this dilemma?

Can't help you if you want to have separate browser windows open. If you can get away from that concept, branching from a menu is reasonably straight-forward. Here's a picture of a menu that I created for a payroll system training. Click on the button and it branches to that section. When that section is over, it branches back to the menu. By changing the names of the buttons, it could be used for most anything. One nice thing I like about this is if they decide to change one part of the system, I only need to revise that section and just republish.
Yes, it would all be under one PowerPoint presentation. You would branch using hyperlinks from the buttons to an appropriate slide within the presentation. To craft one presentation from multiple presentations, you can copy and paste the slides (may be another way, but this works fine). In Presenter, Slide Properties, you would make the hyperlinked slide as level 1 and other slides for that section as level 2.
I would be reluctant to do that, as I would probably wind up with a presentation with over 500 slides, plus audio as well. That may be cumbersome. I do appreciate your advice however, thanks!
OK. Articulate has the Web Objects feature that allows you to branch outside of the PPT, which might be your answer. Otherwise, fresh out of ideas.
Wilson,
Where are your published modules located? On an LMS? Will the supervisor be in a location where he or she could open up the modules from the published location via a hyperlink? Could you give the supervisor a pdf file or word document with a list links to each individual module?
You might want to try googling "cd menu" and see what software is out there that might let you do this. You would need to point to the Launch_presentation.exe file in the published output to launch each individual presentation so as to avoid any Flash player or browser security issues that occur with local content.
