Hi there Roger!

I've seen this a couple of times in the past and I think I may know what will fix this for you.

For the text box that contains the actual text variable, is the size large enough to contain the text that's entered by the user or from the variable? For example, if the user needs to enter multiple lines of text, but the actual text box is smaller than those lines, it may shrink the data that's pulled into the actual box on the slide. So, you can make the text box for the variable larger in the slide itself and it should accommodate that text when it's populated.

I hope this makes sense :)

If you still have trouble with this, you're welcome to share the .STORY file here. I'd be happy to take a look.

Thanks!

I'm also having this issue, and it's not because the text box is too small. I have the text boxes set to NOT autofit, but no matter how I size the variable on the slide, it shows up very small in the project. This is not happening consistently, either. Some slides and courses are fine - others give a result that cannot be adjusted.  The snippet of my published file is below - all the dates are javascript variables, all set to the same size on the slide (same size as the accompanying text - Contested, Active, the Match ID #s, etc.), and this is how they render. Any suggestions?

Hi Brande,

Are there any settings within your Javascript that could be impacting the overall font size? I'm not equipped to look at Javascript and see how the variables are created, but you may want to check into the following items that could also cause unusual behavior within your Storyline file:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive).Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, includingfile corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory pathto your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters(for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents orsymbols in your file names.

The javascript is very straightforward, and doesn't impact the font size at all. This doesn't happen in all courses, and not even on all pages within the same course, so it's very hard to troubleshoot. I am working on my local drive, not a network drive, and the directory path is under 260 characters, and the only characters being used in filenames (as set by the standards for the project team I'm working for) are spaces and parenthesis.

Hi Brande,

The javascript is where the variable is coming from, correct? Since I'm not equipped to handle Javascript in general - it would be hard for me to take a look at it and troubleshoot...but if you're able to post a sample here (or even start a new thread with Javascript in the title) some of our other community members may be able to assist.

It sounds like the behavior is also a bit inconsistent - so I'd try to narrow down when/how it happens - do you see the behavior in a particular browser, flash version, etc.? Always on the same slide? Are there other elements on that slide that could be interfering?
