I have a feeling that the server that you've uploaded your Storyline content to doesn't support the MP4 mime type. If it works from the Tempshare site, then let me know.

So I posted my presentation on the http://tempshare.articulate.com/ site, and my video works when i view it on my computer (google chrome browser), but when i try to watch it on my ipad, i cant view the videos embedded in my presentation.
It's weird, because one of the videos work, but the others dont. They were all quicktime files when i imported them to storyline.
I published the presentation to HTML5 and did not include mobile output.

I've got the exact same problem. My videos were originally imported as mp4's.
However, what video does or does not play seems to be random. It might play once and then not the next time.
Hey Deniz, you must include mobile content in your published storyline content. it contains html5 data. and and even though you include any quitime video, storyline will convert it into .mp4 video.
I'm having the same issue: my MP4 videos won't play in the iPad app.
The video in this "course" is an MP4. OK, so it's not really a course. It's just a test that I'm just using to assess whether or not we can embed MP4 video files in StoryLine courses and then run them on iPads that have the Storyline app on them.
(like I said, it's just a test file to check on the viability of publishing MP4 videos in StoryLine courses)
- Works in PC-based browsers
- displays the opening screen of the video on my iPad, but doesn't play anything
After I publish the course, I create a zip file which I then upload to the Tempshare site. I get the URL, and I'm able to view it just fine on my laptop, but when I try running the course on my iPad, the first screen shows up, and that's it. It just sits there. There's no evidence that what's onscreen is anything other than a still image.
I am having a similar problem but only on some iPads. I was wondering if the amount of memory used on the iPad would affect it. One iPad has 14 GB spare and worked ok. The other iPad had 800MB spare and the videos would not play.
Same Issue, .mp4 video (codec H.264/Audio ACC) does not play within the Storyline title.
However, it plays fine if launched on separate tab or as a direct link, but when imported into the slide it does not play.
I tried using the Storyline controls, custom controls, scrub bar, auto triggers, adding a preview page, etc. Published with and without ipad / andriod app checked, tried all 3 launch links ,(story.html, story_html5.html, and the launch page Launch button) nothing will make the video play inside the title.
The only thing that allows it to play is launch as a web object, but it is not what I want to do because the learner has multiple tabs contend with.
BTW I have all iOS updates and storyline updates installed so everything is current.
This discussion is a bit older, so I'm not sure that you're running into the same behavior as described here. Where are you currently hosting your course? Have you looked at using SCORM Cloud if publishing for LMS or Tempshare if you're publishing for web?
If you're still having difficulty in those environments, we'll also be happy to take a look at the .mp4 and .story file in question to do some additional testing. You can upload it here using the "add attachment" button at the bottom of the reply window or send it along to our Support Engineers as they're accessible 24/7!
The embedded video I am trying to get working is hosted on a company-wide accessible server we launch thousands of courses from. However, this is the first time I've been trying to deploy a company-wide mobile solution. This same server has hundreds of standalone and embedded videos that work fine. It is the mobile play back that is the issue.
We cannot use scorm cloud for deployment because of the inherent PII and sheer numbers of global learners. I've used scorm-cloud before and it isn't robust enough.
So far my publish method is for web because this current global project is not going to be tracked otherwise I'd only use our LMS solution. Also the video itself is mobile compatible in codec, compression and format because I can launch and play it directly and as a web object in storyline that launches a new tab. The video isn't the problem, the problem lies when I put the video in a page, layer, or even a light box slide. I can see the black screen/object but not the video and even with it set to auto play, by trigger or a button; it just won't play on a mobile device iOS or android. It will however play just fine on a laptop or desktop. To launch on the mobile device I've also tried all 3 launch files, story-story
I'd only look at SCORM Cloud to test the behavior and see where the video may be getting caught. You mentioned being on the latest updates of iOS and Storyline, which I know earlier updates of each are where issues were with this, but without seeing the file in question and testing it ourselves it's difficult to pinpoint the problem. If you meant to share the file here, they are not uploaded when you reply via email - you'll need to visit the discussion page to upload it. Also if you've already sent it along to our Support engineers let me know the case number and I can take a look there.
I think it must be something in the publishing/conversion/encoding. In HTML 5 publishing do you know what the MP4 is converted to? I have the suspicion it's converted to a swf object which is why it will not play when embedded in a page but will play as a direct link or web object. If there was a way to determine what it becomes might be a way to better diagnose the playback issue. Unfortunately I cannot attach any src files as per our security policies.
If you know how the file is converted and what it's converted to, that might be a way to create a workaround. My project goal is ultimately to have 1 file and deliver to a global audience both desk-Laptop and mobile without having to create and manage 2 versions.
MP4 are re-encoded as MP4s as a part of the publish process and that's noted in our chart here about how videos are encoded. You could look at using a toll such as Handbrake (which is a free download) to ensure it's using that codec and profile.

Hi Sagar and welcome to Heroes,
When you import video into Storyline, we automatically do the conversion so that the video will play as expected across all of the devices.
Are you publishing your content to the Articulate Mobile Player or are you viewing it in the HTML5 output?
Hi Brian,
I have publish it for Articulate Mobile Player but its not working on iPad
If you want i can send you .story file for your review.
Thanks
Hi Sagar,
First, try uploading your content to Tempshare & then view it from there on your iPad:

Brian, this is an awesome resource!
any solutions for this issue? i also tried to upload video (from file and from YouTube) and both are not working from IPAD (HTML5 and Mobile Player)
video is working fine on my ipad. could you please tell what should I do so that it will work on our server too.
Mitesh, here is a kb article on the subject - http://www.articulate.com/support/kb_article.php?product=ap9&id=w9bvqxxido6t
will the above solution provided by brian wil work when published for HTML 5 in Storyilne and work in IPAD?

The one video that was working on my ipad, had the "show video controls" checkbox checked.
Try and see if this helps.
i'll try doing this for my other videos to see what happens.

just in case you guys want to know what i was referring to...
back to square 1. now some videos are showing this. Before they would be just black with nothing on it.

Here is the thread I started.

works fine on an iphone and ipad without having the mobile content checked. The HTML5 output works fine.
It's the only way to get these presentations working on these devices, if you deal in a password protected environment.

Hi Sagar and Deniz
MP4 is the iPad suitable format. Is it video codec problem. please convert right format in Mp4 (H.264 or AVC) and try it.
