Web objects and browser issues

Oct 16, 2013

Hi!

I have some youtube videos placed as web objects in my course and when I am publishing to web it works fine in Internet Explorer but it doesn't work in Chrome. I haven't tested on any other browsers, but since the course is going to be used at a customer without any support, I am a bit concerned if it doesn't work in all browsers.

I am quite new in the Storyline universe, so is there anything I can do to correct this, or is this just the way it is?

Thanks a lot for your support!

Hi Marianne,

I did a quick search and found a couple things that may help get you started with troubleshooting. This support page: Web object doesn't displayed when published talks about iFrames

and in this Web Object oddity thread the community member is also having issues with Chrome, but not IE, and he mentions iFrames. It looks like they sent his file to support, but I don't see what the upshot was.

Good luck!

Hi Marianne,

I took a look at the case that Becky mentioned in the second thread, and it looks like with Jason's issue it was something reported to our QA team that they're still looking in to, and I don't have a timeline on a fix.. If the solutions Becky provided don't work for you either, you're welcome to share your files with our Support team here and we'll be able to determine if it was the same issue Jason had.

I was curious if there was any sort of update to this issue with video web objects not playing in Chrome when tested in the intended environment?

I have embedded several youtube videos as web objects, published, uploaded to server, opened the module in Chrome, but the video does not open (just shows the background image, as though nothing is there). It does work in Firefox, however.

Thanks!

Hi S and Lenae,

In Marianne's case it was determined that the content was being tested locally and not within the publish environment. Jonathan on our support team was able to successfully play the video in Chrome once loading to a website.

Jason's issue was reported to our QA team, and dealt with the Web Object locking up after one use in HTML5 layers.

Hi there, Felicity. Let me ask a few questions so we can narrow our troubleshooting!

  • Does the video just show as black in Chrome?
  • Also, can you let me know what update of Storyline 2 you’re using?  Go to Help > About Storyline.
  • Was the video working at one point, and then it stopped?  Or is this new content that hasn't worked yet?
