This handsome and functional tabs design was shared in this forum thread. There are six different tab layouts to choose from, featuring hover states and visited states on each, and pre-built slide layers for each tab's content.
Hi David, I think the reason you can't click the base layer boxes is that each slide layer contains a background graphic (inserted in the slide master).
Select a slide layer and press F4 to open its slide master. Delete the background rectangle and you should be able to click through the slide layers.
I built the template so feel free to send me your file and I'll take a look.
I have removed the player feaures "next & prev" on the base layer to ensure that the learner is required to click on each tab before advacing to the next slide, however I still need them to be able to advance once they are done and I'm not sure how to do this? Is there a way to only show the navigation features once they've viewed all the headings?
Hi Sonia,
I found the best work around for this is to use your own arrows and links to create tabs on layers... but if someone else knows better, I'd like to know too!

Thanks Julie. I removed the player navigations and added a close button with a trigger on the last layer that brings them to the next slide. It was the easiest fix that I could think of....
Hi there! Love this template. I built a modified version of this for a course, and forgive my perhaps obvious questions as I am new to the community and the Storyline. This template does not seem to allow me access to the player next and back...Is there a way to get that back...I see the default player loading and then it's like a layer pops over it. Id there something I need to locate and remove? I can't quiet deconstruct all the element to determine the issue/ Much thanks! Kelly
Hi Kelly! I'm happy you like it. You can enable the player buttons from the slide or as a project setting. This tutorial will show you how to show or hide the next buttons: community.articulate.com/.../controlling-a-slide-s-advance-behavior-and-other-slide-properties.aspx
I have each layer linking to a separate scene. At the conclusion of each scene I link back to the tabs page. Problem is, linking back does not take you back to original state of tabs template page, it takes you back to the layer you left from. How to link back to the top view- showing all 6 tabs- which I am using as a table of contents? Thanks!
Hi,
I've just started using storyline, and I'm a little confused about changing the heading and sub-heading in the tabs. I went to Slide Master but not sure what you mean by heading bar. How do I can the title and subtitle of each section?
Hi Lisa! Storyline is so much fun - seriously. You'll get the hang of it in no time!
Start by selecting the item you want to edit, click the States tab, and edit states. From there, you can edit your text. When you are finished, click Done Editing States.
Let me know if this helps.
Hi Montse. Why is your simple solution for editing the Tab button names not working for me? I selected it Tab 1-1) > States > Edit States. I see the text in the highlighted Normal state box, but I cannot edit it. The cursor does not seem to move to the beginning of the title (Heading One) even though I am in Edit mode.
Can you please tell me how to get the cursor in Edit mode?
Sorry for my previous posts...I was looking for the Edit field in the wrong place--you can edit it in the tab itself, not down below where the States button is. DUH! Thanks!
Hello! I am shiny new to Storyline and still trying to figure things out.
I believe this question was asked and answered in an earlier post (see early, early post by Shelby Wilson), but I didn't understand the answer. I'm trying to create multiple slides for each tab. For instance, you click on tab 1, then it takes you to slide. You click the next button, and it takes you to another. When you're all done, it brings you back to the tabs. What's the best way to accomplish this?
And thanks to Montse for this great resource!
Hi Montse, just wanted to say that this looks really good and it is functioning as a great resource to help bring a colleague of mine up to speed on Storyline.
I did have one question though and that is why did you put the text boxes in the states stack instead of out on the main timeline?
I just moved them there and it does not seem to have changes the visuals or interaction in any way. So my assumption is that it is a matter of keeping things clean and organised, since it keeps all of those text boxes off of the main timeline. This makes sense and I would do the same only addressing the issue by using the grouping functionality.
If this is not why you are doing it this way would you mind explaining your reasoning?
Thanks!
