Looking for a way to gamify your next quiz or assessment? This Storyline board game template is just what you need. Simply add your text content to the quiz slides and your learners are ready to play!
Thank you Nicole for the non-stop creative work. Appreciate very much.
Also appreciate Articulate for the continuation of Storyline Articulate 2.0 resources sharing. This is the right thing to do and fair to the users who do not feel being forced to make a decision of either 2.0 or 360, or between Articulate and ...
i was looking at creating something like this , great work and thank you for sharing.
Would i be able to change the background image ? and keep all of the other content the same ?
Hi Priya! Thanks for leaving your question. The background here is composed of a solid green background color, and then some graphics of the road, the river, the trees, and the buildings. The graphics are all items on the timeline, so you can definitely remove everything you want and create your own background. Hope this helps! :)
Hi!
The freebi is wondeful and would be perfect for me to use in class. However, since I'm a teacher, and not a graphic designer, I don't have tools to open and use the template.
Could you provide ascreenshot or something like that which I could open on ppt? I could work around the problem, then...
Congratulations on the wonderful template!
Gisele
Hi Gisele! You can click on this link: http://articulate-heroes-authoring.s3.amazonaws.com/Nicole/Demos/SL-BoardGame/SL2output/story.html to view the entire example and you can take screenshots to your hearts content :)
Brilliant work! I would really like to use it but replace the bikes with different colour cars, I have looked everywhere for car images/icons but cannot find any. Can anyone please advise? Thanks :-)
Follow Tom Kuhlman's advice and use the Wingdings/Webdings fonts on your computer to make a car, then recolor to your heart's content: https://blogs.articulate.com/rapid-elearning/create-free-icons-powerpoint-wingding-dingbat-fonts/
Hi Leah! I've gone ahead and created a set of car icons in Storyline 2, simply using shapes that I grouped together. You can download them here: https://community.articulate.com/download/storyline-2-customizable-car-icon-set
I recolored the car in a variety of colours, and you can access either the group of shapes in the .story file (which is available for download) and edit the colors if needed, or you can simply use the .PNG version of the graphics which are also available here. Just use the "Change picture" feature on the Storyline Design ribbon when you have the bike icon selected, and swap it out for the car graphic, and you won't need to update any variables or triggers. Hope this helps!
Hello Nicole,
Thank you very much for sharing the template you have made. I want help on a topic you like. I am using this template in my project but I would like to add more than 4 questions. Such as making the second stage and adding 4 questions to it. When I did the second stage in the same style, I had a problem and I could not solve it. Can you help me? Thank you.
Hi Emel! Sorry to hear you've run into an issue trying to re-purpose this game! I understand you want to create a "second stage"... I think your best bet will be to duplicate the existing scene, remove the first 2 intro slides, and update the question numbers 1-4 to 5-8 on the second/duplicate slides. You can keep a result slides for each quiz, or have one results slide at the end for both. Hope this helps. Let me know additional questions you have. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is you've run into but if you can provide more details I might be able to help more.
Thank you for your return. I've added the .story file to help you further.
The part that I want to tell you is that the game consists of 4 questions
in the first stage and then the result page comes out and then I added the
button to the result page in the 2nd stage. When you go to the second step,
no question goes to the bike and it shows the result directly and this is
something I do not want. You will see it already. I hope this time I have
become more explanatory. Thanks again.
Hi Emel
Thanks for sharing the .story file I had a closer look and can see where the problem is. What you need to do is open your .story file and go to slide 2.1 Board Game (stage 2) and on that slide update the triggers that reference the Question_Counter variable. 0 = 4, 1 = 5, 2 = 6, 3 =7, 4 =8.
Then you'll go into each layer (Q1 to Q4) and update the variable value there also. Q1 = 5, Q2 = 6, Q3 = 7, Q4 = 8.
Thats all you need to do! I also recorded a video showing how to do it, which you can view here: https://360.articulate.com/review/content/2e563001-cc0b-4741-98a0-659452cdf0d9/review
Hi Nicole, I really love your game template. I seem to be in a similar situation with Emel. I am trying to extend the template to accommodate more questions. However, I'm having difficulty with this. I have added a fifth question but I can't get the template to display the fifth question. I've been on this for a few hours but can't figure out what the problem is. Thanks.
HI Kayode - It's probably the Question_Counter number variable, like what happened for Emel. If you look at my reply to him you'll see a video tutorial. That should help you sort out the issue.
Hi Nicole, I'm still trying to figure this out since yesterday. Please see the file here (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bzb0w0oYkWMaQlFhdjBfYy1pOXM/view?usp=sharing). Do you have any idea why it is not loading question slide 5?
Thanks
Hi Kayode - Unfortunately even with the file I haven't been able to pinpoint the problem. I will keep looking, I think it may be related to a trigger or motion path but I can't nail it down. In the meantime, I would suggest you post your question along with story file here in the Storyline discussion forums (https://community.articulate.com/forums/articulate-storyline) because there someone else may be able to pop in and look at your file and help figure it out! Best of luck!
I cannot get the game to publish. It just gives the buffering icon on the screen but never loads. I have tried several different ways to publish but no luck. Any suggestions/solutions to this issue?
this is a great example of how to make a 'quiz' more fun and engaging. I'm trying to figure out your scoring variables. Where can I find what the passing score is?
This is wonderful thanks Nicole, and I have used it very successfully for a project here. I wanted to adapt it to another project and want to change one of the buildings to another type of building. Would you be able to advise the source of your flat design buildings, as I would like to add a new building with the same styling. Thanks again for this great resource. Cheers.
Hi Nicole,
Could you help me out. I'm trying to create my own board game using the same concept, but can't get the triggers right. I have a box on the first slide, which triggers to a question on a separate slide. When you return back to the first slide, I'd like a green tick to appear on top of the box to confirm it's been done. The green tick is in a layer and I've added a correct state to the tick and 'Change state' trigger to the base layer with a condition. I've also added another trigger to set question counter equal to 1 when the user clicks the box.
Thanks in advance
Hi Angela!
I'd love to help you figure this out but it's hard to do without seeing the actual Storyline file. Any chance you can pop into the Articulate Storyline forums (https://community.articulate.com/forums/articulate-storyline) and leave a discussion with your question and attach the Storyline file? Then i can open it up to take a closer look and figure out where exactly the issue is happening :)
Great game Nicole!
Not only does it achieve what we were looking for... it was an amazing learning tool for myself.
I was able to go about the design in a whole new way.
My only problem is that I can't seem to get the motion paths right (during recreation)
I've watched quite a few videos and nothing seems to interact with different scenes. I feel like that may be my problem. (please note.. it's not finished)

Kyle,
When you create your motion paths, in the Animations tab, you need to activate the pull down menu for Path Options and select, "Relative Start Point" so that the path will begin where the last path ended.
Is that what you are trying to accomplish?
