Hi Everyone, this is just to let you know that this is not a beginner template. It has a lot of animation, sound, and timer tricks that might be hard to discern at first. So if this story file seems overwhelming, there are some other really good matching card templates in the downloads area also! Enjoy!
{...this is not a beginner template}
Boy, was that an understatement :-) I produced all the facing and flipped cards, changed the background, then started on the triggers......WHAT?????
Wish I had read your statement earlier (LOL).
Thank you Richard..I really enjoyed TRYING. Awesome template.
Great Game Richard,
Very addictive - I kept going until i got it right...
I also tried your download but it was for a different game. Let me know when you upload the correct version as I'd love to see how you created it.
Many thanks,
Charlene.
Hi, Richard! I tried the link above... it's actually a link to this page (the one we're currently on). The DOWNLOAD button still appears to be downloading the "memory_game-random.story" file instead of the correct one. I'm anxious to see how this thing works! :)
Good Luck Charlene! I will say that this particular template has a lot of things going on within it, so if it seems overwhelming there are a couple of other match game ones that are easier to pick apart.
This IS a really nice concept. But not sure what value it contributes to eLearning? How could something like this be used? Matching definitions and terms?
Hi Kevin, That would be up to the learning objectives and your user level.
You're right though, you could extend this and connect associative pairs
like definitions and terms, or even something like animals and Species.
I think the point of it all is to give you a resource to build whatever
you might want to. The methods therein(like animation, timing, etc) could
be used in part, for many many other applications or objectives.
I know this is an older post but I wanted to say I liked the template very much and find it very useful for many applications. For example, I am building an onboarding program. Many of us look at endless org charts walk away and then wonder, who does what around here? I am using the template, to reinforce the "Who does What". After the learner has looked at various org charts they are challenged to play the matching game. The "characters 1-6" have been replaced with placards that have the persons name, function and geological position on them.
Love it! I customized it for my language learners kids! ( Telugu alphabets) Very nice! For demo I kep it - please check here :http://www.justwrite.in/paluku/story.html.
I observed, even successfully completing sometimes try again slide comes :(.
BTW, if possible I need step by step instruction on this, can you provide?
Haven't played with this template yet. Also viewed yours Rao S. I see the brief delay between the pointer and when its available as a clickable hand. It's more apparent in yours Rao S.
Also Rao, your Start here sign, try and make the clickable hotspot on the entire sign. I had to move around the large sign until I found a clickable area.
Richard, I'm hoping to locate where I can possibly speed up the timing when the pointer is ready to use as an "on-click". At first, I thought it was me...perhaps I was being impatient, but was double clicking to reveal a new card. Then, I notice that my pointer was not ready.
Thanks again.
Hi Monica,
Open the block layer and reduce its time length to 1s or less. This will reduce the time it takes to click. However the timing was set to ensure animations and card counts don't fail.
It's not necessary, but you might also want to adjust the t1...t6 animation timers on the far left(blue boxes) to speed up the flipping back of the cards as well. You can adjust their timing by selecting the animation tab, and bring down that time to about .25s.
Finally if you want to adjust how long the user has before the bell goes off, adjust the length of the clock layer, as well as the Entrance animation on the Polygon on the Clock Layer. It's duration needs to be set to your new time as well.
Hi Richard,
Thank you for responding so quickly.
I was sure the timing of the point-to-click had a relevance. Now I see why. Also, thank you for the instruction on setting the pointer and clock/bell length. That was very helpful.
Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing.
Richard,
What a great game! I'm using it as a visual review where the learner has to match the name to the picture. However, I needed to extend the time, so your directions on adjusting the clock layer was really helpful.
My question is how do you adjust the Stop polygon to match the new clock layer? I adjusted the clock layer to 60 seconds but the black polygon is still showing time up after 35 seconds.
Hi Ellen, Sorry I forgot that there is an Entrance Animation on the Polygon of the Clock Layer, it's duration needs to be set to your new time as well.
Pretty brilliant design. Took me a couple of hours of close examination to really understand it. You took it to a new level. I probably would never have thought to use object motion as a timer. And I did not realize that animation could be included in state changes. Those things made all the difference, as I was running into trouble in my own attempt at a card matching game trying to find a way to cause spin animation using a trigger. Very nice job.
