This supercool Storyline 2 slider interaction created by Ashorne Hill lets learners explore a CAD-developed realistic environment to practice key skills.
James this is one amazing slider interaction. Looking at the inner workings still gives me a headache and for a first project well done. The guys at Ashorne Hill do great work :-)
Thanks Phil, we did consider using photo's but in real life, it's pretty hard to see any of these things, and you can't get such a smooth set of transitions across the slider. CAD illustrations can also be amended and layered so we're not limited by what's really there.
From an instructional design perspective having James' skills is great, as it allows you to immerse the learner in the environment and let them take control of the story.
Do you know what it is though ?!?
Thanks Phil! It's been a fun project to work on, even though it became quite complicated quite quickly!
Producing the graphics this way we were able to create a familiar but simplified engineering scene which focuses the learner's attention on the most important features.
Thanks guys! We're very excited about the potential of more immersive learning environments! Glad this project is of interest - I'm planning on doing a short 'making of' piece over the next week so.
Could you provide a link or explain what tools would be necessary to create this? I was going to do a 360 image in Photoshop but this slider interaction would be great too but I'd still need to know how you built the image.
Please advise!
It takes advantage of Storyline 2's built in sliders, so whilst I don't think it'd be impossible in SL1, I'd say it's much more straightforward in SL2.
Thank you! I look forward to reading your article or post about how you created it. We would love to take this concept and apply it to our context. We think we may have some internal resources who could help with a CAD model, but as to how to "embed" it or get it in a format that will work with the slider, that's where I would need some guidance. :-) Thanks so much for for sharing!
The default player buttons were switched off in story view, I set up the custom player buttons using shapes with appropriate states and triggers on the slide master.
Hi everyone, thanks for all the positive comments! I've finally had some time to produce the 'making of' mentioned previously, it should hopefully be posted up soon!
The part where I'm struggling now is how to get the highlighted area to show up in the right spot and be clickable regardless of the state of the image/slider. Is this an SL2 thing?
This is stunning. I've forwarded this to several people. Serious props for such amazing work and thank you for sharing. I love how Storyline empowers users to create serious "Badass "* work and how users showcase their work and share with the community.
*See "Badass: Making Users Awesome" by Kathy Sierra. Articulate totally gets user design in this and every respect.
