Thanks to the prebuilt variables available in the new slide numbers feature in Storyline 360, it’s easier than ever to create a personalized progress meter. Take a peek at this example to see one way to do that.
Head on over to this article to learn more ways to use this cool new feature and to this tutorial to see how I made this progress meter, step-by-step.
You're welcome! :) Just thought I'd point out that the slides in this example are taken from a template that's available in Content Library, so if you have an Articulate 360 subscription, you also have access to these slides and more!
HI Allison. I am trying to deconstruct your SL project. I must be missing something as I am not getting the same result. Can you share the set up / steps?
Hi Rachel! I'm sorry to hear you're struggling. Here's the tutorial: https://community.articulate.com/articles/how-i-made-this-progress-meter-in-storyline-360
Wonderful job here! The real cleaver part is hover state. Would have never thought of that.
I wonder if there is a way to do something a bit more complex. Say, depending a branching path, the user chooses from the Main Menu slide to calculate a remaining total number of slides in that path and create a Visual Progress Bar based on that.
I think you could maybe through a several hard coded variable numbers. But I'm not sure that the Slide Number tool would be applicable anymore.
Something to note in the demo provided is that if you skip around and go to the last slide in section 5, it will tell you that you've complete the course. If this is not the last slide of the whole course, it may be confusing for the learner. It may be an easy fix if you wanted to say, unlock section 5 fo... Expand

Thanks for the demo! I appreciate its simplicity as it will make it easy to add/modify to.
I'm just wondering how this would work for a course where by the learner doesn't need to visit every single slide to reach the end of the course. How would that work - or will this only work when you require the learner to visit every slide?
Allison. Really nice work here. I love how clean your design is and how you have laid out your content for the student. Great work and very inspiring.
Graham.
Thanks Graham! The slides themselves are actually templates from Content Libary 360, I just designed the progress meter. If you like them, there are tons more where that came from! And they're all free with your Articulate 360 subscription. Check them all out here: https://360.articulate.com/content/templates
Hi Allison! Thank you so much for this. I'm very new to articulate. I tried to follow your steps but I don't get the same trigger wizard as you mentioned in the guide. My trigger wizard only gives me Action, When and Conditions option. Do you know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
Hi there,
Sorry you're having trouble here! The trigger wizard has been updated since I created the tutorial. The good news is that you can download my file by clicking on the download button on this page and have a look at the triggers so you can see what they look like in the new wizard. :) Let me know if you run into any trouble after having a closer look at my file.
hi! This is wonderful! I'm brand new to Articulate (trying it out to test over Captivate) and I got this to almost work on my first try, but the actual slide color isn't moving in with the course progress. I'm getting the % but the bar is not moving in to show the color progress. Any ideas on what I missed?
Hi Amanda,
Did you make sure that the trigger is pointing to the right variable? See Step 2 in this tutorial: https://community.articulate.com/articles/how-i-made-this-progress-meter-in-storyline-360
If that doesn't fix it let me know and I'll reach out to you via email so you can send me your file.
Hi Allison,
Thanks for sharing this! It was very easy to follow. However, I am having a similar issue here. I have taken a look at your tutorial but I can't get the thumb to move as the training progresses either. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?
Hi Alison, I'm trying to follow your guide on this (thanks for sharing!), I have it mostly set up but I'm finding it gets hidden behind some graphics on some slides. Do you copy/paste this to all slide layouts in the master view to counteract this? Also I can't get the percentage hover trick to work. It just stays where I originally positioned it, is it supposed to move with the progress bar and just appear when someone hovers? Thanks!
I put it on the parent master slide (the top one). You may need to check the "hide background graphics" box for certain layouts and then put those graphic elements directly on the slide.
For the percentage hover, you'll notice that the text appears in the same spot in my example as well. It only appears when someone hovers.
