We all know that reusing and recycling is good for the environment. It also happens to be good for e-learning developers — because if you can leverage your e-learning assets across multiple projects, you're saving time, money, and effort. One way you might be able to get more mileage out of your e-learning development efforts is by reusing the audio narration you use in your presentations. Let's take a look at how.
Step 1: Export Audio from an Existing Presentation
- In PowerPoint, open the presentation that contains the audio you want to reuse.
- Click Audio Editor on the Articulate menu.
- When the audio editor opens up, you'll see the waveform of your slide narration. Click the Articulate button in the upper-left corner and select Export.
- Choose WAV or MP3. (If you plan on using the audio in another Presenter project, we recommend using WAV files, since these will give you the best quality when publishing from Presenter.)
- Choose a location for your exported files, and click OK.
- Click Save & Close to close the audio editor.
Presenter exports your audio to the location you chose. The file names will reflect the slide number and the slide's navigation title:
Step 2: Import the Audio into a New Presentation
Now, in PowerPoint, open the presentation in which you want to reuse the audio you just exported.
- Click Import Audio on the Articulate menu.
- In the window that appears, select the slides where you want to reuse the audio. You can use Shift-Click to select a group of consecutive slides if you want.
- Click Browse.
- Navigate to the audio files you want to reuse. You can use Shift-Click or Ctrl-Click to choose multiple files. Then click Open.
- An Import order pop-up appears. You can use the buttons on the right edge of the window to rearrange the order in which the sound files are applied to your slides, if you need to. Click OK to complete the import.
- When you return to the Import Audio window, click OK again.
That's it! The files are now part of your new presentation.
