Audio Editor jumping to random positions.
Hello,
I have encountered a bug or very strange feature in the Storyline 360 audio editor.
When I press the space bar to pause the audio playback in the audio editor and then click onto the waveform, everything just jumps to a random position on the waveform.* This means that my click on a certain area leads me to click onto a completely different area for no apparent reason. This is making it almost impossible to do any sort of precise audio editing.
*(It seems that the playback always tries to jump so that the last played area is at the start of the visible screen when you click on it after pausing it with the space bar. Strangely enough this problem doesn't seem to appear when using the mouse to click the yellow button for pausing.)
Would greatly appreciate help.
Hello Everyone!
I wanted to share some great news! We are no longer seeing this bug that caused the audio play head to jump view when using the space bar to toggle audio while in zoom mode.
Please make sure that you are using the current version of Storyline 360 (3.72.29699.0).
To confirm or update your version of Storyline 360:
- Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your Windows machine.
- Click the drop-down arrow next to Storyline 360 and select Other Versions.
- Here you will see the current version being used, or have the option to update.
Please let us know if you're still encountering the issue and we'd be happy to continue troubleshooting with you in a support case.

haha, all good, the Hero tag is deceptive.
Becca, above, is staff so she might pop in, good luck!

@Walt Then why is that feature even available? It makes no sense to have an utterly unusable tool to make SIMPLE edits without having to jump through external applications, generating more files, and reimporting. SL needs to fix this bug.

Exactly. This feature was not flagged as an experimental Beta-feature, but sold as part of a B2B-oriented software package for professional content creators. So it seems reasonable to expect a product that actually works - or at the very least is fixed in a timely manner. I can't believe that this well known and documented bug is still there after 10 months.
I'm actually slightly speechless...

Thanks for reaching out and sharing the helpful screenshot, Tim!
Looks like you've encountered a bug we have logged with our team, and we'll be sure to update you in this discussion once we have an update.
I appreciate you taking the time to let us know about this, and I'm so sorry if this is slowing you down!

Hi Tim,
I hardly use the space bar for pausing in the audio editor, so just tried now and cannot replicate the behaviour you describe (if I am understanding correctly). I paused using the space bar, then clicked in the waveform and nothing jumped. I was able to play again from that point, and then pause again, click the waveform and select a section of the wave, etc. and found no issues.
It sounds like a bug, maybe? Are you able to share your file in case anyone here can take a look?

Hi, thanks for helping. I just tested it again - the error only seems to occur when you are zoomed in.
I uploaded a video file to show the problem:
I'm afraid sharing the file is problematic due to German privacy laws. But if needed I can try and reproduce the error on a blank course and upload it.

Ah yes, I see now, and I am able to replicate. Becca has logged this as a bug, so hopefully it will be resolved soon.

Hi Veronica,
it has been 4 months now and sadly there doesn't seem to have been any improvement in the buggy audio editor. I am seriously confused as to why the bug has not been fixed yet.
I would appreciate an update on the planned patch release date for this bug.

Thanks!

Hey Tim,
Appreciate your frustration, for sure.
Unfortunately, I am not in a position to provide this information--I am a community member just like you :)
An Articulate staff may come in here and comment, or, you could also contact support to see if there is any movement.
Sorry I can't help more
- TimWaldronCommunity Member
Oh, sorry, I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the fast response, though. :)
Good idea, I will contact support directly.
By the way, is there any way to directly invite an Articulate Staff member to a thread?
Hello Tim!
Our team is currently working on other fixes for upcoming releases, so this one hasn't been prioritized just yet! But when it does, I'll be sure to update this discussion!

FYI, this is still a problem as of the most recent update on this date. Still very frustrating.

Seriously, SL is an authoring app. I suggest editing your audio in an app designed to edit audio, like Audacity. It may involve a couple of extra clicks, but will save a lot of time, and a ton of frustration.
