Cannot access a closed stream

May 24, 2021

Hello,

I am able to save my project file fine until I add a video. Then I try to save and get the error Cannot access a closed stream and am unable to save the project file. If I delete the video, I am able to save the project file again.

What can I do?

Hello Erin,

Sorry you're running into that error! The message 'cannot access closed stream' could indicate file corruption, but I have a few more questions for you to narrow down the cause:

Hi Deborah,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this snag.

It looks like you are working directly on a network drive while making changes to your project file. We recommend moving your project file to a local directory on your computer if you are able to do so to reduce the risk of running into file related issues.

As a troubleshooting step, can you try doing a 'Save As' of your project and then saving a new version of your project to either your 'My Documents' or 'Desktop'?

If the issue persists, open a case with our support team here so we can provide further assistance.

Hello Volker,

Sorry for the trouble. Thanks for sharing that you are working locally. As my colleague Becca pointed out above, this error message could indicate corrupt elements in a file. Importing the slides into a new Storyline project can help remove the corruption. I'm glad to hear that you were able to rescue your work by "Saving As." Here are tips to help prevent this from happening again:
