Custom Menu / Custom Search / Access Project & Slide Metadata

Apr 14, 2018

Hi!

I am pretty new to Articulate Storyline and just starting with a more complex project. So far i got the feeling that a lot is possible with this tool, but connected with manual effort. I am trying to build custom features because i dont like the look or place they have in Storyline. There are of course a lot of threads here I've read but most of the answers did not satisfy me. Maybe you can help me out with your approaches.

Menu

I want to build a custom menu accessible via a Hamburger-Icon which is placed on the master template. This project could easily contain more than 40 slides and also change over time, so every manual build menu solution is not what i am looking for. Did anybody ever build a dynamic menu which somehow reads out all the slide titles and links them correctly.

Search

The built-in search is great! But I dont like that it sits inside the menu. I created a chromeless player and want to add a custom-search inside every slide which is accessible via a Search-Icon. What are my options? I guess a custom-built search must be maintained by someone? Or is there a way to move the searchbar out of the menu?

Slide numbers / Slide Metadata in general

Is there a way to access Slide Metadata such as Titel, Slide Number etc. via JavaScript?

--> This seems to be my general problem. I want to extend Storyline with a lot of custom things and haven't found the right way to do it up to now. I read about the Storyline SDK but it's says its only for Flash not HTML5, which is what i want to build. Do you guys create Web Objects for features like these or how is this done? All manually?

Thanks for your replies!

Hi,

I would like to build something simmilar to what you are describing. I found this video tutorial on how to customize the searching feature in Storyline. For what I see, it is doable but requires some work. Good luck!
