insert web video?
Apr 03, 2018
Hello
My client wants to add an .mp4 video. I had them upload it to there servers and send me the URL. (It's not a YouTube video)
I have read the article about inserting video, however, I do not have embed code. I only have the direct URL path to the video file asset. How can I link to it to show in the course?
I do have the actual .mp4 file as well. It's about 500k. I assumed it would be best to link to a file on their server rather than embed the video, is that correct?
Best way to move forward?
Thanks
Karen

Hi Karen! If you'd prefer not embed the actual video itself due to the size, it sounds like you may benefit from inserting it as a web object. This tutorial shares some more information on embedding web objects into your course!
Thanks. From a file size standpoint... is 500k considered too large to be embedded?? This course will be viewed via internet (not internal) so my original thinking is yes, too large, as it will cause loading delays. Am I correct in that assumption?
Ok. I have the proper URL and the video is playing, in-slide, as expected. However, I do not see any options to alter the video controls. They include full screen and download options in the playback bar that I want to remove. How do I do so?
Hi there Karen! There should be a way to remove the video download option, but I have a few questions for you first:
If you're using Storyline 2, you'll need to disable the video controls in Storyline before publishing. This will remove the video download option in Chrome.
This problem shouldn't happen if you're using Storyline 360 or Storyline 3.
Hi Alyssa,
Does the file need to exist on a specific type of video-streaming server?? Because I'm also having issues with the video not working in IE11 (forces me to "open" or "save as")
Hi Karen,
It looks like I also just posted to your other query here. Take a look and let me know there if you need anything else.
