playing embedded video
Aug 06, 2018
Greetings, all
I have You Tube videos embedded in Storyline that are located on a layer, triggered by a show layer button on the base layer. The video shows up on the layer page, but has to be clicked on to play. Is there a way to get the video to play automatically when the layer is displayed?
The embedded code for one of the videos is:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dPVYIaBowQU" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Hey Judith,
Thanks for reaching out and sharing the details of what you are seeing.
The autoplay function is a Flash only feature as you can see in this documentation. This is a browser limitation.
I see.. thank you so much for the reply, Leslie.

No problem Judith.
Just a heads up, it looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.
Perhaps this Flash only feature applies to web object videos?
I have inserted videos on slides and they DO autoplay. However, when I insert a video on a layer in the same manner, it will NOT autoplay.
Hello Kaye,
Try using this embed code:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dPVYIaBowQU?&autoplay=1" frameborder="0" encrypted-media"="" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>
The autoplay works for IE 11. But doesn't work for Google Chrome.
Here's my last attempt. It seems to work in google chrome now.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dPVYIaBowQU?autoplay=1" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media;" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>
Hello,
I am not sure if I understood what Leslie said. But Ihave the same Judiths problem. The video autoplay (i can listen to it) but, to see it I have to click.
I am not using youtube video. I am using a video from the company´s server.
Hi Alvaro,
Happy to help here!
The play button that you see to activate the slide is the intended behavior. Google no longer allows videos with audio to autoplay in Chrome 66 or later. Learners using Chrome 66+ will see a play button when they launch or resume a course with a video on the first slide. Clicking the play button starts the course and allows the video to play.
For more details about this, feel free to check out this resource:
Hello Vincent,

Greetings, Alvaro!
Thank you for that screenshot!
What happens if you remove the code and simply keep the URL of the web page in the Address field? Here's a short video of my experience when adding a Web object.
If that doesn't help, would you mind sharing your .story file with me so I can run through a few tests? You can use this link to share it privately.
Hello Katie,
I was trying usind adding an embeded video. Still, I tried your way, and he video did not appeared lol.
I am juts testing the software, so, dont mind about its aesthetics. Btw, i tried your link to upload, but i did not gave any link to share with you lol.
Actually, it did not work on "review 360" but i did on "web", when publishing.
Thank you for the extra clues, Alvaro! I've got your file and will be in touch with my findings soon. Thanks!
