I have found the easiest and only way to "Reset to Initial State" for quiz questions with multiple attempts (so the quiz slide resets) is to do the following:
Change your When revisiting properties on the base layer for each question slide: (found in slide properties) to Reset to Initial state
On the Try Again trigger button - Edit your trigger from Hide this layer to Jump to "Slide # (choose the question you are on)" when the user clicks.
This will automatically reset your slide to the initial state because you are Revisiting the slide - not just hiding the Try again layer and going back to the Base layer.
This is a great workaround. Thank you. However, I cannot limit the amount of attempts now as it will always allow the learner to try again.Do I need to add something to stop this from happening?
yes you would need to add a variable to control the attempts - not sure if you are talking about attempts per quiz question or attempts per quiz - happy to take a look if you want to share the .story file.
Just to say that ran into a similar problem to my original one but with more slides in the story. This is where the learner has to select 'X' answers and have an option to 'try again' twice and then get given the answer if they get it wrong. I still had the issue of the selected slide didn't reset the previously selected areas of the slide. I tried Wendy's solution but didn't work.
Another colleague suggested that on the 'try again layer' to add a trigger on each of the shapes the learner has the option to select on the slide to 'Change state of 'selected shape' to normal. This resets all of the shapes on the second attempt of trying and you can then still use the attempts section to as many as you want the learner to do. It's a bit manual but it does work and I am a happy chappy. I thought I would share this alternative approach in case anybody else runs into this issue.

Are you able to post your story file here?
Hey W - I agree with Derek here and it would be great if we could take a look. I see that Ali reached out to you here as well :)
Welcome to E-Learning Heroes by the way!

Hey Stephanie and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Thanks so much for chiming in and sharing your findings with the community.
It could certainly be helpful to someone that runs across this conversation in the future.
Hey Stephanie, Thank you so much for posting this! I've spent the past thirty minutes searching for exactly this information :)

Thanks so much. I tried to follow a video on doing this but it didn't work for me - user error no doubt!
Thanks for taking a look :)
The ideal state would be the learner tries the quiz twice and then the feedback with answers is given.
Hi Adam
see if the attached works for you.
I created a variable q1_attempts and default to 1. Then add triggers on the Try again layer.
Hope this helps
Wendy,
Thank you so much. That works brilliantly. I really appreciate your help.
Hope it didn't take too long.
With very best wishes,
Adam
Glad to help Adam - all the best with your project :-)
