Slide *Numbers* out of order
I my project, the content on the slides is in the correct order, and they play in the correct order, but the numbering is wrong. The numbering goes: 1.1, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5
In Story View all the arrows point correctly to the next page and I can see from the thumbnails that the content is in the correct order. I haven't inserted a new page between other existing pages. I've created this project linearly.
Any advice how to get the slide numbers to be in the right order without messing up the slides themselves?

Not sure if there is another way to do it but when I had this problem on a project I was able to fix it in Story View by selecting the slide I wanted to renumber and dragging it up next to the one I want it to follow until I saw the little blue arrow next to the predecessor and then dropping it.
